Recently, actor, Junaid Khan reflected on his childhood and growing up with divorced parents. He mentioned that the first time he ever saw Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta fight was when he was 19.
Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood icon, Aamir Khan made a stellar acting debut in the 2024 release, Maharaj. After observing his acting mettle, the audience had high hopes that Junaid would be carrying on the legacy left by his legendary father. The actor, who is busy with the promotions for his upcoming film, Loveyapa, recently opened up about his childhood. Junaid further shed light on his experience of growing up with divorced parents.
Junaid Khan recently sat down for a candid chat with Vickey Lalwani, during which he reflected on his childhood and growing up with divorced parents. For the unversed, his father, Aamir Khan and mother, Reena Dutta spent nearly 16 years together and had two children, Junaid and his sister, Ira, before calling it quits. Three years after his split from Reena, Aamir tied the knot with Kiran Rao in 2005, and the pair has a son, Azad.
Reflecting on having to deal with his parents' divorce as a child, Junaid stated that his parents made the transition very smooth for their kids. According to him, Aamir and Reena never even let them feel that they had split up, so much so that the first time Junaid saw them fight was when he was 19. Junaid can be quoted as saying:
"The first time I saw my parents fight, I was 19. So we never saw them disagree or fight. They always… When it came to us (Junaid and his sister, Ira) they were a single unit. So, I think that way they did well. I think it was probably a mature thing to do. I mean two good people aren't always good together and this way we got, at least I got a childhood with both parents being happy."
Junaid Khan further elaborated on the dynamic he shares with his family now, revealing that they were very close and made a point of catching up regularly. The actor stated that given that he, his parents, and his sister all 'live within the same 100-metre radius.' they met up quite frequently. Elaborating on his family's Tuesday evening tea tradition, Junaid said:
"Every Tuesday evening is family tea. So, mum, Ira, me and dad, sometimes some of us may not be free, but otherwise every Tuesday evening we meet where there are all four of us or three or two. For a few years now we've been doing that. We meet quite frequently."
Junaid Khan also noted the changes he had seen in his father, Aamir Khan over the years. The actor revealed that Aamir wanted to spend more time with his kids as he got older. Junaid shared:
"I think he… I think we all evolve as humans as time goes by. As he is getting older he is wanting to spend more time with us. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's like, 'papa please…' By and large mostly it's a good thing."
However, Junaid also added that he had never actually felt the absence of his parents' togetherness as a child because he was always surrounded by family. The actor stated that his 'Papa' was never entirely gone from the picture, so he never missed his presence that much. In fact, Junaid added that he sometimes felt it was fine if Aamir didn't show up for different occasions.
