Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin first met in 2010 and were in an intermittent relationship. They broke up for good in 2016 and eventually reconciled after two years in 2018. In an interview with Apple Music's Ebro Darden, the 29-year-old Canadian singer, Justin Bieber talked about how he realised that his marriage to Hailey Baldwin Bieber wasn't the solution to his personal problems and that embracing spirituality has helped him reach a positive place in life. Justin said:
"It's a journey. I remember when I first got married, I hit a little bit of an emotional breakdown because I thought marriage was going to fix all my problems and it didn't. It just kind of was a reflection of like, man, you're a bit of a hypocrite man."
The Sorry singer mentioned to the host that he realised that he wanted Hailey to do something for him that he was not necessarily doing for himself, which made him feel like a hypocrite. Justin further mentioned that life's circumstances completely changed him. He said:
"You want your wife to do something that you're not doing and it's like, it's hard sometimes to look in the mirror and really have to realize, man, maybe you're not the person that you necessarily thought that you were. And that's just a result of trauma and life circumstances."

During the same interview, Justin Bieber shared how his faith has had a positive influence on his life. He expressed that he has been open about his spiritual journey and how his connection with Jesus has helped him to be kinder to himself. The concept of forgiveness and having Jesus guide him through each day has allowed him to improve and avoid being overly self-critical.
Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber have faced numerous challenges since their marriage in 2018. These include health scares and relentless online criticism, which have caused them undue stress and pressure. The Rhode founder, Hailey experienced a personal health crisis in 2022, suffering a stroke-like episode caused by a blood clot in March. Meanwhile, Justin was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome in June 2022, which caused facial paralysis and led to the rescheduling of several of his U.S. tour dates.

She said:
“He’s still the person that I wanna be rushing back to. I might fly somewhere and go do a job, but I can’t wait to come back and hang out. And I feel like that’s because of the effort that’s been put in on both sides. At the end of the day, like, he’s my best friend, but it still does take a lot of work to make it work.”
