Throwback to the time when Jyothika revealed why she finds it difficult to work with her husband, Suriya.
If Suriya is a sensation in South Indian cinema, his wife, Jyothika is not far behind. Though she is a popular name in South, Jyothika’s acting career began with Hindi cinema. She made her acting debut in Priyadarshan’s Hindi film, Doli Saja Ke Rakhna in 1998. Apart from Tamil films, Jyothika has worked in Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films.
Apart from her acting chops, Jyothika’s on-screen chemistry with her husband, Suriya, is loved by many. The duo met in 1999 during the filming of Poovellam Kettupar. They became friends and gradually fell in love. In 2006, the duo got married and are proud parents to two kids, Diya and Dev.
Though Jyothika has worked with many stars, her camaraderie with Suriya is a sight to behold. But the actress feels otherwise as during a media interaction sometime back, Jyothika revealed that it was easy to work with Suriya’s brother, Karthi, who is one of the power-packed actors in Tamil cinema. In the same interaction, the actress also stated that she finds it difficult to work with Suriya. Revealing why she feels more comfortable working with Karthi than Suriya, Jyothika said:
“Acting with Suriya is difficult, as like most couples, we often fight with each other.”
Suriya and Jyothika’s love story is very filmy. He was a Tamilian, while she couldn’t speak a word of Tamil. After their first meeting, Suriya and Jyothika kept bumping into each other on different occasions. It was during the filming of Kaakha Kaakha that the two fell in love. When their film was released, the couple was believed to have gotten engaged.
Suriya’s parents were very traditional and conservative and were against his wedding with Jyothika since she was a North Indian. Suriya had gotten engaged to Jyothika to get some time to convince his parents about their relationship. Within time, Suriya’s parents agreed, and the two got married in a traditional Tamil ceremony. Suriya dotes on Jyothika and has often spoken about the same. In a throwback interview, the actor once spoke about his marriage and stated:
“My marriage to Jo has been all that I expected and much more. Jo has been a wonderful wife and makes an even greater mom to Diya.
Jyothika was at the peak of her career when she married Suriya. After their marriage, she left the industry to focus on her family. She returned to acting in 2015 with the Tamil cinema film, 36 Vayadhinile. In 2024, Jyothika made her comeback in Bollywood with the supernatural thriller film Shaitaan. After the success of Shaitaan, Jyothika signed up for two more Hindi films, Srikanth and Dabba Cartel.
