Today is a sad day for the Devgn family as they lost their 'first man', Veeru Devgn at the age of 85. Ajay Devgn had always talked about the contribution of his father in making him a successful hero.
Parents are the most prized assets in a child's life. No matter how old you grow, you will always be a little kid for your parents. From every small problem to every gigantic one, we literally run to our parents for everything. Although it is an inevitable truth, we shudder to think of a life without our support system, whom we call our parents. But today is a sad day for the Devgn family (May 27, 2019) as they lost their 'first man', Veeru Devgn at the age of 85. Time and again in interviews, Ajay Devgn had always talked about the contribution of his father in making him a successful hero. He, being the first person to launch his own son in the 90s superhit film, Phool Aur Kaante, Veeru Devgn was a celebrated action director. Having worked in over 80 films over time, the late Veeru ji's initially struggle days in Mumbai when he came seeking for work was awe-inspiring. Today, indeed, is a sad day for all Bollywood lovers.
Trade analyst, Taran Adarsh was the first person to break the news through his Twitter handle. His tweet could be read as "Veeru Devgan passed away this morning [27 May 2019]... Father of Ajay Devgn... Veeru ji was an accomplished action director... Also directed #HindustanKiKasam, starring son Ajay with Amitabh Bachchan... Funeral will be held today at 6 pm... Heartfelt condolences to Devgn family." And soon enough, an array of stars flocked the Devgn residence to pay their respects to the legend. While we will share pictures of the same below, please note how dutifully, Devgn bahu, Kajol is managing the preparations for the last rites of her late father-in-law:
Talking about his father, Veeru Devgn a few years ago, Ajay Devgn had shared that his dad is his true Singham in every sense. He had shared, “The Singham in my life can only be my father. Because he is a man who came to Bombay at that point in time with Rs 4 in his pocket, wanting to become something, struggled, washed and lived in taxis so he could live here, did not eat food for eight days at times, worked so hard, became a street fighter from there till Mr Ravi Khanna saw him one day asking him whether he would become a fight director. From there, his growth from nowhere to become India’s topmost action director is remarkable.” (Must Read: Katrina Kaif Reveals Real Reason Why Salman Khan Doesn't Want Her To Call Him 'Bhaiya', Check Inside) In an interview, Ajay Devgn had shared that more than him, it was his father, Veeru Devgn who had wanted him to be an actor, "My father wanted me to be an actor even more than I did. My first film worked, and the ball was set rolling. I never had to worry about a "job". Ajay had also shared if his parents ever praised him for being so well-placed in the industry, "My father has never actually told me this. He's happy for me, but if I don't work out for a few days, he'll tell me, "Dekh, tera pet bahar aa raha hai." [Laughs] He told me this just last night." Veeru Devgn was an action director and we have seen Ajay Devgn topping the box office numbers with his action films. Did he get the required inspiration from his father? Ajay had shared, "When I started doing films, people expected me to do action because I am an action director’s son. So I started to get action films and I also got labelled for some time. But then, after some time, I started getting films like Zakhm, Raincoat[2004]. Then people saw the other side [of me]." Ajay Devgn had further added, "I was doing action with my father. So, of course, it was my comfort zone. Also, I liked the kind of action sequences that I was supposed to perform in my first film. I liked both the music and action of that film. It was because of this that I was labelled as an action hero for some time."
