Kajol reacts and justifies as to why she gets to play elderly roles, in comparison to her iconic co-star, Shah Rukh Khan who romances younger actresses on-screen.
Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan are just two names which can sum up the obsession of any 90s filmy kid. The duo has made Indian cinema memorable with some of their unforgettable movies, such as Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Baazigar, amongst others. Their fans, even today, cannot simply get over their picture-perfect on-screen camaraderie.
Well, while the two have portrayed some incredible chemistry on-screen, nevertheless they have been the best of friends right from day one. And needless to say, their friendship has stood the testimony of time. As Kajol has made her power-packed comeback to the silver screens with her new film, Salaam Venky, she recently spoke about her much-loved co-star SRK, and revealed why he gets to be paired with younger actresses till even today.

During a promotional event for her new film, Salaam Venky, Kajol gave a thoughtful response when asked about how Shah Rukh gets paired with younger actress, when she herself gets to play elderly-motherly roles. Kajol responded:
“I am going to share an interesting point with you which I feel is my opinion on the heroes and it is nothing related to statistics. I think the heroes of our film industry, in fact, feel they are in this nut for a reason. And the reason is that the film industry is a business at the end of the day.”

Elaborating on the point further, Kajol mentioned how even today, the male actors are made to bear the burden of levelling up the business of the film industry, and in the end give out highly profitable numbers for the business in filmmaking. In her words:
“Whatever you do at the end of the business, every hero has to pull in that much to make that film a hit. It’s a huge responsibility on their heads. Somebody asked me this question, You have grown as an actor and your contemporaries have not grown as diverse as the roles that you have done. I think that really has to do with the fact that they are also stuck down the line because of the number game. They are shouldering that responsibility.”
