Kalki Koechlin shared that life after her divorce from Anurag Basu was tough, especially when she had to stay alone.
Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin was married to popular filmmaker Anurag Kashyap for two years. They announced their separation in 2013, and they filed for divorce in 2015. She recently opened up about how her life became tough as she was a single lady and was not getting a rented house in Mumbai.
In a recent interview with AfterHours With All About Eve’s YouTube channel, Kalki said she was troubled a lot. This was because nobody wanted to rent a place to her as she was a single woman. Even though the actress was a known face in the Bollywood film fraternity, she found it difficult to get a home in Mumbai. In her words:
"I am famous. You want to take selfies with me, but you don’t want to give me a house."
Kalki even recalled the time when she and Anurag separated. Two of her hit movies, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, had already been released. On the personal front, things were difficult for her as the divorce had taken place, and her movies had also been released. Anurag, earlier in an interview with Pinkvilla, had also revealed that he and Kalki had shifted to a house bought by director Shashank Ghosh. Kalki had found the house, which the director earlier owned. Anurag also added:
"When I came to Mumbai, I actually just wanted to somehow get into movies. I could have done anything for the house. When Kalki had actually found this house. And then I moved in here.”
Earlier in an interview with the Hindustan Times, Kalki revealed she took time to process her divorce. There was no denying that in the first few years after her divorce, she could not be friends with Anurag. She needed the separate time because it hurt her to know about his relationship. In her words:
"So, of course, we took that time, I definitely took a lot of therapy, and now it's been seven, eight years... It's been a long, long time so it's fine, it's great and we get along, as friends."
Kalki married Anurag in 2011, but they separated in 2015. She made her Bollywood debut with Dev D, a romantic dark comedy directed by Anurag. Her role opposite, Abhay Deol, was appreciated. Kalki was also seen in That Girl In Yellow Boots, directed by Anurag and Sacred Games Season 2. She was blessed with a daughter in 2020 and called her Sappho, with her partner, Guy Hershberg. There were reports that Kalki and Anurag separated because of their professional goals, preventing them from investing much time in the relationship. There were also rumours that Anurag was involved with Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi, which created a lot of tension and issues in their personal life.
