Kalki and her Israeli classic pianist boyfriend, Guy Hershberg are expecting their first child in January 2020. When Kalki was married to Anurag Kashyap, whom she divorced in 2015, she was rebelling against the idea of motherhood and now in her mid-30s, she is welcoming the same with wide-open arms. And since Kalki herself was born through a natural water birth, admitted that she is planning the same for her first baby.
Ever since Kalki Koechlin had announced her pregnancy, she is surrounded with multiple questions from the media about her so far experiences, motherhood and parenting. In an interview with Miss Malini, Kalki revealed the first thing she did once she found out about her pregnancy and her reaction to the same. Kalki said, “I went and immediately bought another pregnancy test, just to make sure. But it was a very happy reaction. I think the last few years have been a situation where, I know I have wanted children, but I was also not been in a… either the times wasn’t right or I wasn’t with the right person. Or whatever, there was something! So all those things seemed to have come in place this time. Even though it wasn’t planned as we were thinking maybe in a year or two. But I think that’s the best thing about it. Now we are just diving right into it without too much pre-planning.”
Kalki Koechlin revealed her due date to be end of January 2020 and sharing a cute message for her unborn child, she remarked, “Hey kid! It’s gonna be tought but can’t be tougher than what you are going through right now in the womb because you know, forming and existing is probably one of the toughest jobs. And yeah, I got your back. Actually, you got mine right now so that’s why I am gonna get yours when you’re born.” (Also Read: Ankita Bhargava Reveals The Truth About Being Pregnant Again After Suffering Miscarriage Last Time)
When asked what is she looking forward to the most, Kalki Koechlin remarked, “When I see the sonography, I see this creature which let me tell you in the first three months, it was an alien invasion. It was like a virus because I was throwing up, I was so ill and I was like how does nature ensure the survival of the species when it makes it so unpleasant for us. But I have passed that stage and thankfully now I am glowing, peaceful and very excited. And of course, when you see the baby in the sonography, you hear the heartbeat, it sounds cliched but it’s a miracle. Coming from absolutely nothing into forming a complete person. So I am just looking forward to meeting this person.”
In the HT Brunch interview, Kalki Koechlin had shared how the experience of pregnancy has changed her. Kalki was quoted as saying, "I already feel the changes in the way I react to things. I am more deliberate, slower, more patient. When motherhood comes eventually, it brings with it a new consciousness to your sense of person. I still want to work but it is less about the rat race and more about nurturing oneself through one’s work. It becomes about infusing concentration and energy inward." Kalki revealed that she has already zeroed down a name for her baby, “I’ve chosen a name that works for either gender and that is representative of a gay person, because I want my child to have that freedom of movement under the many umbrellas of gender that we have.”
When asked what kind of parent she wants to be, it looks like her only strategy is to go with the flow. Adding on the same, Kalki Koechlin had continued, “I know that I want to be an engaged parent. My concern is to connect with my child, not to have a particular rule, or expectation.” Kalki had chosen a local naturalist birth centre in Goa and will have an experienced midwife guiding and supporting her throughout the process. The birthing will take place near a hospital in Goa, in case of any emergency.
Revealing how motherhood has been an experience for her, Kalki Koechlin had remarked, “Motherhood began with my brother, who is much younger than I am. I remember watching him come home from school one day, he must have been seven or eight, with a project on climate change and thinking ‘this is such a renewal of innocence’. Children take us back to the basics; remind us of what is important. Also, just wanting to experience pregnancy, of feeling this life grow inside you.” (Also Read: Inaaya Naumi Kemmu's Ethnic Looks Is A Proof Of Royalty In Her Genes Passed On By Graceful Mom, Soha)
