The South Indian film industry is in shock as they woke up to a distressing news about renowned playback singer, Kalpana Raghavendar. The star singer, known for her soulful singing in Tamil and Telugu films, allegedly tried to commit suicide. She was found unconscious at her villa and rushed to a hospital in Hyderabad. While Kalpana is undergoing treatment, the exact details of the case remain unknown. Here's everything you need to know about it.
In a shocking news report by ABP Desam, Kalpana Raghavendar, who lives in a villa in Hyderabad, didn't open the door of her home for the past two days. This alerted the security, and they contacted the singer's neighbours. Consequently, police were informed about the incident, who opened the door to Kalpana's villa and found her lying unconscious. She was immediately rushed to the Holistic Hospital in Nizampet, Hyderabad.
Reports suggested that Kalpana tried to commit suicide by swallowing sleeping pills, but there is no confirmation of it or the reason behind her drastic step. According to sources, Kalpana's condition is stable but she is kept on ventilator support. On the other hand, her husband, Prabhakar, who lives in Chennai, rushed back after learning the news. As Kalpana's condition remains critical, police have begun the investigation of this case by questioning her husband. They also took him to his home to further understand the case.
When the news about Kalpana's alleged suicide made headlines, the Tamil and Telugu film industry was shocked. In a video shared on X, popular singer, Sunitha was seen rushing towards the hospital to meet Kalpana Raghavendar. She was seen dressed in a pink and white salwaar-suit with tears in her eyes. The singer refused to interact with the media and directly went inside. Meanwhile, her family hasn't released any official update.

Kalpana Raghavendar is the daughter of well-known playback singer, TS Raghavendra and singer, Sulochana. At five, she began her singing career and learnt Carnatic music under Madurai T. Srinivasan. The singer also purused a postgraduate degree in computer applications. Kalpana made her playback singing debut in 1999 with Mangala Gouriki from Manoharam. Kalpana also won Star Singer Malayalam in 2010 making her way into people's hearts.
The singer has worked with composers like Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman in her career. Overall, Kalpana has carved a long, illustrious career by recording over 1,500 songs in multiple languages and doing a brief acting stint with Kamal Haasan’s Punnagai Mannan. Some of her top tracks include Poda Poda Punnaku, Premante Suluvu Kadhura, Joole Joole, Dikkulu Choodaku and Pogiren, among others. Kalpana was also a part of Bigg Boss Telugu Season 1 and has judged several reality singing shows.
