Kangana Ranaut will be making her directorial debut with the film, 'Emergency'. Recently, she revealed she has even asked Priyanka Gandhi to watch the film.
Kangana Ranaut is one of the most talented actresses in the film fraternity. The actress is known for being outspoken about her thoughts, which always wins her a spot in the headlines. Now, the actress is all set to make her independent directorial debut with her film, Emergency, which is all set to finally hit the cinemas in January 2025 after numerous delays. The film is based on the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, who imposed an emergency in 1975.
A few days before the film, Emergency's release, Kangana Ranaut, who is also a Member of Parliament from Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), revealed that she had asked Priyanka Gandhi, Congress MP, to watch her film. In an interview with the PTI, the actress was asked if the Gandhi family had reached out to her to watch the film. For the unversed, Kangana Ranaut will be seen in the role of Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi's grandmother, Indira Gandhi.
During the conversation, Kangana revealed that the Gandhis have not yet reached out to her. However, she met Priyanka in the Parliament, and the latter complemented her work and her hair. Kangana also shared that if they were a little accepting of what had occurred all those years back, they would for sure like the film. Responding to the interviewer, the actress stated:
"No, no, they didn't reach out to me, but I met Priyanka Gandhi in the Parliament, and she was complimenting me about my work and about my hair. So, I was like, you know, I made this film Emergency, and maybe you should see it. And she was like, 'Okay, maybe.' And I think if they have a little bit of acceptance for what has been. They would appreciate the film."
After Kangana Ranaut was elected as the MP from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, in 2024 on a BJP ticket, she sat for a conversation with Times Now. During the chat, Kangana described Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as 'nepo kids' and 'weird as if they landed from Mars.' In her statement, Kangana also pointed out that she despises Congress because she feels like the party revolves around nepotism, a social evil against which she had fought hard in Bollywood. She was quoted saying:
"The Congress has always been an appalling party for me. The nepotism in the party has been hugely problematic for me because I was a target of the same system in my industry. I had condemned it openly, I fought against it. Something that was exploiting me... Nepotism, groupism, dynastic politics."
The Kangana Ranaut starrer, Emergency, was co-produced by Zee Studios and Kangana's Manikarnika Films. The film is a political thriller that highlights the time of the emergency in the country. The film also features Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Shreyas Talpade, Mahima Chaudhary, and Milind Soman, among others. After numerous delays, the film is finally scheduled to be released on January 17, 2025, as it will be marking the 50th year since the imposition of the Emergency.
