Karan Johar speaks about his age-old friendship with Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan and recalls a special anecdote dedicated to their friendship.
Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan’s association with one another go back a long time. The duo have come together and collaborated to create some masterpieces of films, such as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, My Name Is Khan, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho among so many others. Their bonding with one another has certainly evolved over the years, and has turned into friends like family, than just a director and an actor. And in a recent interview, Karan Johar reminisced one particular anecdote about their friendship, which undoubtedly sealed it forever.
In a recent interview with Mid-Day, Karan Johar opened up about the kind of bonding he shares with Shah Rukh Khan, and elaborated on a special anecdote, which kind of sealed it to be permanent and forever. The filmmaker recalled how during the shooting of the film, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, he was threatened by an underworld don to stall the release of the film. Karan revealed how SRK built upon his faith and said something special, that formed the foundation of their eternal friendship. Karan mentioned:
“I’ll never forget how Shah Rukh brought me out. He said, ‘I’ll take the bullet for you, you just stand here’. That’s when I realised that this is a relationship that is forever. Shah Rukh said, ‘What nonsense!’ He went inside and dragged me out. He said, ‘I’m standing here in front of you. Let’s see who shoots you. I’m standing right here.’ I said, ‘No, no, no, my mother was…’ He told my mother, ‘Nothing’s gonna happen. I’m a Pathan. Nothing can happen to me and nothing will happen to your son. He’s like my brother. Nothing’s gonna happen.”

In one of his old interviews with ETimes, Karan Johar was asked if he had approached his dear old friend, Shah Rukh Khan for agreeing to do a cameo in the then-recently released film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. To this, the filmmaker revealed that he already felt privileged since SRK did several cameos on his request in films like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and added that the actor even worked for free for a shoot schedule of over 18 days in the film, Brahmastra.
Well, Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan share a very special connection, and that is not restricted to the duo, but also extends amongst their respective families. Proof of the same was found when in an interview with the Bombay Times, Karan had hailed SRK’s firstborn, Aryan Khan as his godchild. Revealing how he has some envisions for Aryan’s future, Karan had mentioned that he would be ready for him as a guiding support, if he wishes to make a career in the film industry. He even promised to launch Aryan under his tutelage.

Some time back, a Reddit user had dropped an old clip of Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar, as the actor attended the latter’s chat show, Koffee With Karan, along with his wife, Gauri Khan. In the clip, SRK during a conversation with Karan Johar, took a sly dig at the latter’s age and revealed that they were kids when their friendship started off. SRK could be heard as saying:
“I remember we were kids when we started off. I don't know about Karan, but at least I was."
