Television actor, Karan Patel opened up about the darkest phase of his life when he became too arrogant and was out of work for two to three years.
Often hailed as the king of the telly world, Karan Patel won everyone’s heart with the main role of ‘Raman Bhalla’ in the show, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. It was in 2003 when Karan forayed into television with the role of ‘Vigyat’ in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. After which, he was seen in TV shows. In 2007, he bagged his first lead role in the show, Kasturi, which got shelved because of his erratic behaviour and alcoholism.
In the interview, Karan Patel opened up about getting a call from Ekta Kapoor for the show, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. Revealing the promise, he made to Ekta, Karan shared:
“I got a call from Balaji, Ketan had called saying Ekta wants to meet you for a show and I was amazed. So I went to Balaji, so that’s when I told Ekta that I try not making the same mistakes again but I also promise that I will make new ones. I am not saying I will not falter, may be not in the same way, but may be in a different way. Because I had to make it very clear, tomorrow don’t crucify me for putting my foot in the wrong hole. I said I promise you that I don’t make the same mistakes. She said fair enough, I will take the gamble.”

“It has been the darkest phase of my life. Kasturi had shut for a reason and the reason was me. Not many people know about this, but I was erratic during that phase but I did learn my lessons from the wrongdoings. I thought I was too big for my boots. I was a superstar. I thought mere bina show chalega nahi only to have the show shut and then realize that nobody can be spared and nobody is bigger than the medium.”
In the same interview, Karan Patel also talked about taking a ‘forced break’ from his career after the show got shut down. Calling it the darkest phase of his life, he said:
"At the end of the day, you need to be seen and if you do not respect the medium, you will probably not achieve what you ought to achieve. So, yes, learned the lesson the hard way. For around two and a half or three years, I was out of work. Not a single phone call came. People thought that I was on a break but I was not; people didn't want to offer me work because of what I'd done.”
The actor also accepted reaching out late on the sets and consuming alcohol during the shooting. Revealing details about the same, Karan stated that he was stupid to make those mistakes, but he holds no baggage and has learned his lessons.
