On September 06, 2018, the Supreme Court of India, in its monumental and much-debated verdict ruled that homosexuality is not a criminal offence. People from various spectrums and strata, especially from the LGBTQ+ community, came out together and celebrated the landmark judgement. One of the well-known faces in Indian television and revered celebrity, Karanvir Bohra was the first, among many, to share his joy on the same. However, it seems that to say isn’t the same as to act. In what could be termed as one of the most infamous and shameful incidents in the history of Bigg Boss, of which Karanvir is currently a part of, homophobia could be smelt inside the house. A wildcard entry, TV actor Rohit Suchanti and Saath Nibhaana Saathiya fame, entered the Bigg Boss 12 house recently, and housemates, Sreesanth, Karanvir Bohra, Saba and Somi Khan made lewd and derogatory statements on Rohit’s sexuality on national television.
Sreesanth commented on Rohit’s dressing sense and asked why he is wearing purple shorts, questioned his sexual orientation and even went ahead to enact and mimic him in front of everybody. Karanvir Bohra wasn’t far behind and even he cracked homophobic jokes. In fact, everyone’s favourite, Dipika Kakar, also laughed along with Sreesanth and Karanvir.
Naturally, Twitter went berserk and fans of Bigg Boss, couldn’t control their anger. And one of the persons who slammed Karanvir Bohra on Twitter was none other than his wife, Teejay Sidhu. In a series of tweets, Teejay expressed her disappointment over her husband, Karanvir and other housemates. She wrote, “Disappointed with the #BiggBoss housemates after yesterday's episode. How small-minded & nasty to make fun of someone's sexuality, whether it's through words, gestures, mimicry, or just standing at the sidelines laughing. And that, too, with no proof of someone being gay. @ColorsTV”. (You May like: Alia Bhatt's Pics With Ranbir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor And Neetu Kapoor In The US Is Pure Family Goals)
In another tweet, she added, “Just to clarify, I am not 'targetting' anyone. Some people stood by laughing, which I found equally wrong. Why didn't anyone assert their strong opinion & say something? I still believe in the best of all HMs and hope they realize this was not nice”.
And in another, Teejay went on to say that Karanvir would definitely apologise if the topic is brought up by Salman Khan, “I know it was not intentional on KV's part. He is a very sincere, decent human being. He didn't mean to be hurtful & if this topic is raised by Salman, I know KV wd have the grace to apologize. I'm still his number 1 fan, but we have to help the people we love to become better people”.
It must also be mentioned here that Bigg Boss 11 contestant and Teejay’s friend, Vikas Gupta also slammed the Bigg Boss 12 inmates for their behaviour. Vikas blasted Karanvir, Sreesanth and Dipika in an Instagram post. In his post, slamming Sreesanth and Karanvir wrote, “I had made a mental note to give an earful to him whenever I met him but then I saw an idiot telling others that Rohit is gay & then Karanveer announcing that Rohit swings both ways just by looking at him, and our notional hero Sreesanth deciding that Rohit is wearing the colour purple which makes him gay and going as far as mimicking and acting pansy and trying to do all he could have to ridicule someone half his age”.
He also slammed other contestants inside the house who did not speak up on the issue, “It shows that even our country's educated are so narrow-minded and idiotic enough to actually consider all these attributes for someone having alternative sexuality. Will Bigboss team and Colors will take a strict action or just say this will not be tolerated and like always it will happen again? Well, I am not expecting anything from them but I would like to call out to everyone in the house who didn't stop the ones talking and making gay jokes and instead laughed at them. Some of you I know personally and I feel ashamed today that none of you had the guts to shut Sreesanth up and their fans who are level-headed and educated enough to realise that it's not about Rohit Suchanti who is straight but the portrays, the LGBT community as something to be made fun of or laughed at is really disgusting”. Well, the hypocrisy is so evident inside the Bigg Boss 12 house, and we are so happy that Teejay Sidhu and Vikas Gupta took an insightful and correct stand. Hopefully, Karanvir, Sreesanth, Dipika and other inmates would apologise soon.
