Saba Ali Khan treated us with a major throwback picture from Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s 'dawat-e-walima' on her IG stories and added a ‘family’ sticker atop it.
Back in 2012, when Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor had said Qubool Hai in a registered marriage, which was preceded with mehendi and sangeet ceremonies and was followed by a post-wedding party, i.e., dawat-e-walima. The much-in-love couple, Saif and Kareena became one in the presence of their family and close friends. With their wedding, the lovebirds had proved that inter-faith, inter-religion, inter-background and inter-anything doesn’t matter when one is in love! Saif and Kareena’s union became even more special with the presence of his kids from his first marriage with Amrita Singh, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. There’s something special about the heirlooms. It not only gives a vintage charm but is anchored with sentimental value. For her nikaah, Kareena Kapoor had opted for her mother-in-law, Sharmila Tagore’s bridal sharara which she had worn on her wedding with Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi in 1962. The wedding outfit comprised of a tissue rust-orange kurta, a matching dupatta embroidered heavily in gold, and sharara with a contrasting, mint-green border. For Kareena, her designer friend, Manish Malhotra had revived the sharara set. While we already knew that Kareena had revived Sharmila ji’s bridal outfit, what we don’t know is that it had originally belonged to Sharmila Tagore’s mother-in-law, Begum of Bhopal. While we will come back to this later, let us show you an unseen picture from Kareena and Saif’s post-wedding celebration.
No matter how many Pinterest-worthy poses you put a check to on your wedding, there’s a special and different charm about the candid pictures that is second to none. The most beautiful moments are captured by the photographers in the natural selves of the bride, groom, families and guests hat make for the best of the memories. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s wedding photographer had also captured one such beautiful moment at their dawat-e-walima, in which the newly-weds were getting ready for a family portrait with Sharmila Tagore, Saba Ali Khan, Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Kemmu and other family members in the frame. Saba treated us with this major throwback picture on her IG stories and added a ‘family’ sticker atop it.
For dawat-e-walima, Kareena Kapoor Khan had opted for an ensemble by Manish Malhotra, which was a two-piece outfit comprising of a light pink kurta and flared rani-pink coloured gharara, which she had teamed with a matching heavily embroidered dupatta. Kareena had accentuated her look with a Rajputana-style choker, matching earrings and kadas, all encrusted with uncut diamonds and intricate enamel work. Saif Ali Khan had complemented his wife, Kareena in a Banarsi brocade achkan by designer, Raghavendra Rathore. Speaking of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s bridal outfit, a few days ago, Sharmila Tagore’s elder daughter, Saba Ali Khan had revealed that the bridal outfit originally belonged to Sajida Sultan. Saba had posted a picture of her grandmother, Sajida Sultan, mother, Sharmila Tagore and sister-in-law, Kareena Kapoor Khan wearing the same bridal ensemble at their respective weddings, which proved how traditions live on forever. Saba had captioned the pictures as “Begum Sajida Sultan My grandmother. #mutawalli #onceuponatime #strong #woman #admire #respect #wedding #outfit #tradition #passed #down #bhopal #royal #family”, “Tradition...passed on to the next generation. #royal #wedding #outfit #begumofpataudi #tradition #bhopal #married #to #late #nawab #mansuralikhan #pataudi” and “MAHSHALLAH. Generation and tradition, continued. #begumofpataudi #kareenakapoorkhan #wedding #gharara #old #tradition #followed #nawabofpataudi #saifalikhan.”
Back then, Kareena Kapoor was criticised by many for her decision to marry Saif Ali Khan at the peak of her career, but she has always called it the ‘best decision’ she has ever made. We still remember how gorgeous Saif and Kareena had looked when they had first come out at the balcony of their residence as Mr and Mrs Khan to greet the paparazzi post registering their marriage. While Kareena had looked resplendent in a green-coloured suit paired with a red dupatta, Saif had opted for a grey kurta and white pyjamas, and the couple couldn’t control their happiness, posing for cameras.
