Pregnancy is a beautiful phase in a woman's life that can't be explained with words. At this time, the mommies-to-be take special care of themselves and their to-be-born babies. Not only that, they are pampered by their loved ones, and every wish of the pregnant ladies is fulfilled even before they are deciphered. However, many women also face complications during their pregnancy but remain tight-lipped when it comes to talking about them.
Undoubtedly, it is imperative to normalise talking about pregnancy complications and not shy away from the various pregnancy conditions. Since during pregnancy, any health issue can affect the health of both the mother and the baby. And for cases of miscarriage, which is the most painful experience in a woman's life, it can occur due to negligence of certain health complications. Thus, here is a list of celebrity mommies from the entertainment industry, who had shared untold secrets of their pregnancy journey and has also normalised talking about the complications of this phase.

Dia Mirza had tied the knot with the love of her life, Vaibhav Rekhi in 2021, and together they are blessed with a boy, Avyaan Azaad Rekhi. However, during the second trimester of her pregnancy, she had gone through a sudden appendectomy. This was followed by a subsequent and very severe bacterial infection which could have led to sepsis and proven to be life-threatening.
So, this wasn't an easy phase for her. Due to this, she had an emergency C-section, and thankfully she could give birth to her baby boy safely. Talking about the same in an interview with ETimes, Dia had also mentioned that her placenta had started to haemorrhage and thus, her baby had to be delivered prematurely. In her words:
"I had to go in for an appendectomy in the fifth month of my pregnancy. I was in and out of hospital subsequently because of an acute bacterial infection that could have led to sepsis while I was in my sixth month of pregnancy. My baby had to be delivered because my placenta had started to haemorrhage. It was a tough time and I’m grateful for my gynaecologist who saved our lives."
Kareena Kapoor Khan and her husband, Saif Ali Khan had welcomed two cute munchkins, Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi in 2016 and Jehangir Ali Khan Pataudi in 2021. Kareena is a social butterfly, and she often gives us a sneak peek into her real life. During a live interaction section with the filmmaker-producer, Karan Johar on his show, Koffee With Karan, Kareena had opened up about the difficulties she faced during her second pregnancy.
She had compared her first pregnancy with her second, and revealing the same, she had mentioned that during Taimur, she had gone through no such complications. However, she had talked about her frequent nauseousness and bouts during Jeh's time and had said:
“This pregnancy was extremely difficult compared to Taimur’s, which was a breeze. I had loved it, enjoyed it and that gave me the courage to do it again. But this was different. I had bouts where I would sit down and think, ‘I don’t think I can do this, don’t think anything is going to be okay'.”

Television actress, Debina Bonnerjee and her hubby, Gurmeet Choudhary had embraced parenthood after being in a decade of marital bliss with the arrival of their baby girl, Lianna Choudhary on April 3, 2022. However, the new mommy in the telly world has time and again talked about the difficult time she has gone through while trying to get pregnant and also during her not-so-easy pregnancy period.
On April 7, 2022, Debina had shared a video on her YouTube channel, Debina Decodes, talking about the two health issues, which had made it difficult for her to conceive. First, she had revealed that she had suffered from endometriosis and adenomyosis, which she had gotten to know after consulting an IVF specialist.
However, Debina Bonnerjee hadn't lost hope and had revealed in the video that apart from taking medication and visiting the doctor for checkups, she had also opted for therapy to heal her mind. She and her hubby, Gurmeet had also performed a Nava Graha pooja and had even consulted an astrologer, who had given her a ring made from tiny rudraksha, which she had worn as his advice. In addition, she had gone for flower therapy, acupuncture, hysteroscopy, cupping, and whatnot. Lastly, she had mentioned starting a healthy lifestyle and that she had focused her energy on working out, which helped her during the pregnancy.
Kajol and Ajay Devgan are blessed with a daughter named Nysa and a son, named Yug. However, Nysa wasn't their first child. Earlier the loving couple had talked about Kajol's two miscarriages due to ectopic pregnancy. In this condition, the fertilised egg implants and grows outside the uterus, mostly in the fallopian tube, which carries the egg to the uterus. Unfortunately, the foetus used to die in this condition since it can't thrive outside the uterus and a critical treatment becomes necessary to save the mother's life.
It was in 2001, two years post, Kajol and Ajay's marriage, that they had lost their first child, and within six weeks of her pregnancy, they had got to know about her medical condition. Again, following her surgery, Kajol had said to Etimes, "tired but otherwise fine", and talking about the risk to Kajol's life, this time her darling husband had said:
"Yes, we have lost our baby, but we have no regrets. it was an ectopic pregnancy. Kajol's life was in danger. As soon as the doctors informed us that they would have to operate, we both gave them the go-ahead. Of course, both of us were thrilled when we learned of the pregnancy following a blood test. Still, if not today, tomorrow we will look forward to starting a family."
Once, Kajol had also opened up about her miscarriages during an interview with Humans of Bombay. She had mentioned the two miscarriages she had while she was filming K3G and had said:
“Over time, we began planning to have kids. I was pregnant during K3G, but had a miscarriage. I was in the hospital that day the film had done so well, but it wasn’t a happy time. I had another miscarriage after that it was tough. But eventually it worked out we had Nysa & Yug & our family’s complete."

One of the most favourite couples in the Bollywood industry, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are blessed with three beautiful children, Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan and AbRam Khan. But, this is unknown to many that the much-in-love couple had suffered a miscarriage in 1997, before the birth of their first kid, Aryan Khan. However, the Bollywood superstar and his wife has never shied away from talking about Gauri's pregnancy complications. In a conversation with Sajid Khan, in his show, Yaaron Ki Baarat, SRK had revealed the same and also mentioning their difficult days, he had said:
"Before Aryan, there were some miscarriages but then when he was born, a couple of days were difficult. Suhana was a girl so that was exciting, as Gauri and I, both of us always wanted a girl first. But it happened second.''
Shilpa Shetty and her husband, Raj Kundra are blessed with two beautiful kids, Viaan in 2012 and Samisha in 2020. For the unversed, the actress had got pregnant just a few months after her marriage in 2010. But she was also diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome (APLA), which mistakenly creates antibodies and attacks the various tissues in the body. This can also lead to blood clots in your arteries and veins. Due to this, she had lost her baby, and during one of the events, she had said:
“I am going to actually share with you my experience of motherhood or rather my journey to motherhood. So when I discovered I was pregnant for the first time, I was overjoyed. And then I had a miscarriage and it was devastating. I thought I had never get pregnant again. And then I was diagnosed with APL syndrome. Imagine someone as healthy as me was diagnosed with APLS and I was very frightened. I feel when you think of motherhood, it should be a very joyous experience, not a fearful one.”
Former Indian cricketer, Harbhajan Singh and his actress wife, Geeta Basra are blessed with a baby girl, Hinaya Heer Plaha and a baby boy, Jovan Veer Singh Plaha. It was in the year 2019, and the second one was in the year 2020 when she was in her first trimester, she had suffered miscarriages before the birth of their second child, Jovan. However, she had her husband, Harbhajan beside her.
After suffering from a miscarriage for the second time, the duo had moved to Harbhajan's parents' home when she had got pregnant with Jovan, she had taken every precaution possible. In an interview with ETimes, Geeta had shared about the difficult phase of her life when she had gone through two miscarriages before the birth of her younger son, Jovan. She had said,
"The last two years have been traumatic for me no doubt but I held myself from breaking down. A woman's hormones after a miscarriage go up and down a lot, which, in turn, makes it extremely difficult for her to maintain her composure. I kept myself strong and did not allow that meltdown to happen. I decided to completely rest it out in the first trimester during Jovan. I just took my vitamins and waited for the first three months to get over. After that, we came to Mumbai, and a little later, I took to yoga. That helped me a lot. Long works in the last trimester were a given. My gut instinct told me that this time all will go well. Touchwood, it did."
