Kareena Kapoor, in a later segment of 'What Women Want', introduced a game, wherein she will give Sara Ali Khan a word, and the latter has to say if she has ever done that in a relationship or not.
Then: the process of falling in love was slow and patient. Now: it just takes a swipe right to take out a person on a date. Then: base one meant holding hands. Now: the definition of base one changed to making out. Then: ‘us’ time meant cooking favourite dinner and watching a film together. Now: quality time is more about putting everything out on social media. In a gist, the definition of a relationship has changed from ‘true love’ to ‘one-night stands’. Somehow over the years, the love letter confessions have changed to lets-keep-it-casual attitude and the denial of emotions. Gone are the days when lovers used to preserve the flower given to them by their partners in a book for a long time as in the era of Netflix and Prime, reading books and preserving the flower has become outlandish. Kareena Kapoor Khan is all set to discuss with her step-daughter, Sara Ali Khan on the second season of her show, What Women Want about Love Aaj Kal! To begin the discussion, Kareena asked Sara about what she thinks is a major difference between a relationship today from what it was 20 years ago. To which, Sara replied, “I think that, you know, especially since, you know I am doing ‘Love Aaj Kal’, whether it’s my character Zoe in the film or it’s me, I think the one thing that I see is very different is that women are more vocal about their needs in relationships today than they were back then, you know. Us zamaane mein ek tarah se, there was a shyness, a coyness…ahh…kind of quiet demeanor to women which was perceived as the correct way to be. But aaj ke zamaane mein, mujhe lagta hai auratein bohot hi khulli hogayi hai aur bohot hi samne se bolti hai unhe kya chahiye apne partners se.”
Reasoning what could have triggered this change in what women wanted back then to what they want now, Sara Ali Khan continued, “I think that’s a result of maybe financial independence, emotional independence, maybe just the fact that women are more confident in their own skin today, which is not to say maybe that, you know physical intimacy for instance, is something that women want more than they did back then. But I think there’s more acceptance to be able to speak about it today than there was back then.”
When probed what qualities she would look for in a man to date, Sara Ali Khan retorted, “I think, sachchayi.” Kareena Kapoor Khan interrupted, “But that’s not the first thing you look for. I mean, you don’t know that person.” Sara added, “Fun, humour.” Kareena cut in, “Good looks?” Sara responded, “Not really. No, I’m not one of those. I am okay without that. It’ll probably be better because then there wouldn’t be self-obsessed and that’s something I can’t handle. I mean he doesn’t have to be bad looking, but he doesn’t have to be so good looking that that’s all we talk about.” (Also Read: Unseen Pictures Of Armaan Jain And Anissa Malhotra's Wedding Has Dance, Swag And All Things Punjabi!)
Clarifying her statement further, Sara Ali Khan shared, “I think that somebody that’s, more than good looking or anything, just comfortable in their own skin. I think that’s rare today. I think people that are just, own who they are is, rare and very-very attractive. So, I think if you can be true to who you are, there’s nothing like that.”
When Kareena Kapoor Khan asked, “Relationship mein wo kaunsi ek chiz hai jis pe tum kabhi compromise nahi karogi?” Sara Ali Khan answered, “I think that, you know, in the world one has grown to accept mediocrity in a lot of departments, but I think that my work and love are two things that I will really try to refrain from going into the mediocre zone. So, I think I wouldn’t like to compromise on, I think, fidelity, maybe. I think that, if and when I get into a relationship, I think that it would have to be with somebody that I can proudly say is mine. And when I say fidelity, I don’t necessarily mean, ‘Oh, cheating on somebody’ or anything like that, but I mean wholeheartedly being mine. Because I am a very independent girl, I’m very driven by my work, I’m very driven by my career, I have great friends, I have a solid support system, I have a good family, touchwood. So, I don’t really need very much. So, if I was to go out of my way and make way for somebody ‘special’ in my life, it would have to be somebody that I’m proud of. Aur agar garv se main nahi keh sakti hoon ki ‘Yeh mera hai’, toh fir fayda hi nahi hai.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan, in a later segment of her show, introduced a game, wherein she will give Sara Ali Khan a word, and the latter has to say if she has ever done that in a relationship or not. The first situation given to Sara was ghosting, to which she replied, “No, I haven’t done that. I reply to everybody. I reply to even those that you shouldn’t reply to. I’m one of those.” She also admitted that she has never cheated in a relationship or checked her partner’s phone.
When Kareena Kapoor Khan asked Sara Ali Khan if she ever sent “naughty texts” and said, “I don’t want to know this, or I hope your father is not listening.” Sara’s sheepish affirmative reply to this made Kareena ask her if she can tell Saif about it. To which, the 24-year-old starlet said, “Sure, I mean he might watch it.” Kareena then hesitatingly asked Sara if she has ever had a one-night stand, “I don’t think I should be asking you this question, but I don’t know. I mean, we’re in a modern family. A one-night stand?” To this, Sara retorted, “Never”, to which Kareena breathed a sigh of relief.
