Karisma Kapoor Clarifies Myth Of Kapoor Family Women Not Being Allowed To Act, 'It Was Their Choice'

Karisma Kapoor is one of the finest actresses in the industry, with a three-decade-long career and an impressive line of work behind her. The actress hails from the popular Kapoor Khandan of Bollywood. She is the daughter of Randhir Kapoor and granddaughter of the late actor, Raj Kapoor. The Kapoor family has given many prominent stars in the industry, including Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and more. In addition, they have been known for their close-knit bond and family practices. In a new interview, Karisma Kapoor shared the truth behind a common myth about the Kapoor family.

Karisma Kapoor denies the myth that Kapoor family women are not allowed to act 

Popular stars from the Kapoor family, like Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor, married leading actresses of their era like Babita Kapoor and Neetu Singh. Both of them left their thriving careers after their marriage and chose to focus on their family. Consequently, several media houses reported that the Kapoor family had a tradition that the women of the family wouldn't act, which made the actresses sacrifice their careers. However, Karisma denied these claims.

Recently, Karisma Kapoor made an appearance on Zakir Khan's show, Aapka Apna Zakir. During the show, host, Zakir mentioned to Karisma that there is a rumour that the women of her family weren't allowed to work, so how did she manage to get permission to work? In her reply, Karisma clarified that it's a false rumour about women from her family not being allowed to work. She was quoted as saying:

“Yeh sab baatein hain ki mujhe allow tha yaa nahi tha.”

Karisma Kapoor reveals that her mom, Babita Kapoor, and aunt, Neetu Kapoor, made a personal choice to leave acting.

In the same conversation, Karisma added that her mom, Babita Kapoor and aunt, Neetu Kapoor, made the personal choice to leave acting. They wanted to focus on their family and have kids. However, her uncle and actor, Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor's wives, Geeta Bali and Jennifer, continued to work in the film industry out of choice. She continued saying: 

“Toh aisa kuch baat hai nahi ki Kapoor family mein shaadi ke baad kaam nahi kar sakte yaa Kapoor ladki kaam nahi kar sakte. Aisa kuch nahi tha…”

Kareena Kapoor shared it was difficult for women to work after their marriage in the 70s 

Previously, in an interview with the Indian Express Adda, Kareena shared how her father, Randhir Kapoor, had been a big support for her sister, Karisma Kapoor when she stepped into acting in the 90s. She mentioned it was difficult for actresses in the 70s to balance work and family, and as a result, many actresses didn't work after marriage. But she has been grateful for how her father supported her and Karisma. The Crew actress shared how it's significant to evolve with files and ditch the archaic times.
