Recently, singer, KS Chithra opened up about the late Lata Mangeshkar's words of encouragement as she was dealing with immense grief following her daughter's loss. They kept her passion alive.
Singer, KS Chithra's soulful crooning has earned her a reputation as the nightingale of South India. The iconic singer has recorded over 25,000 songs in multiple Indian languages, many of which are beloved to this day. Piya Basanti in Hindi, Vanambadi in Malayalam, Chinna Kuyil in Tamil, Kannada Kogile in Kannada, and Sangeeta Saraswathi in Telugu are just a few of Chithra's fondly remembered tracks. Her illustrious career gave the singer multiple opportunities to interact with the late legendary vocalist, Lata Mangeshkar, and some of these went on to become Chithra's most cherished moments. She recently opened up about Lata's invaluable support after Chithra lost her daughter.
KS Chithra recently had a heartfelt conversation with O2 India, during which she recalled a particularly touching interaction between her and the late Lata Mangeshkar. Chithra was going through a moment of immense grief following the tragic demise of her daughter. She had withdrawn from public events and even declined to attend an award ceremony in which she was selected as the award recipient.
Well, the event, which was taking place in Hyderabad, was named in Ms Mangeshkar's honour. And as it turned out, Ms Mangeshkar herself called Chithra to motivate her during that emotionally turbulent time. Speaking about the pivotal moment that inspired her to keep pursuing her passion for music, Chithra said:
"I was selected for the award, but I refused to go because I wasn't in the right frame of mind. Then, Ms Mangeshkar called me and said she was aware of everything I had gone through. She told me that the rest of my life should now be about music and which is why I shouldn't sit at home and should go and receive the award. She also told me that she will come to the award ceremony to see me and I went only for Ms Mangeshkar."
That moving interaction was far from the only one that KS Chithra and the late Lata Mangeshkar had. While speaking to O2India, Chithra revealed that Ms Mangeshkar had, in fact, reached out to her on multiple occasions. She further talked about the time when she dedicated an album to Ms Mangeshkar on her 80th birthday, which she greatly appreciated. In KS Chithra's words:
"Ms Mangeshkar is there in all female singers because we grew up listening to her. On her 80th birthday we released an album dedicated to her and she called me and appreciated me for that."
Earlier, a report by News 18 stated that the late legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar's family had carried out her final wish of donating Rs.10 lakhs to the Tirupati temple as per her will. In an official letter to the board members of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanamsn (TTD), Ms Mangeshkar's sister, Usha Mangeshkar, requested that the donation be presented on behalf of the Mangeshkar family. For the uninitiated, Ms Mangeshkar was very devotional and had a strong reverence for the deity of Lord Venkateswara. In fact, she had even served as the Tirupati Trust's court musician.
