Irrfan Khan was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour in March 2018 and had left for London for his treatment. The actor had returned later in February 2019 to shoot his film, Angrezi Medium, and had flown back to London for another surgery. After which, he had returned to India in September 2019 and on April 28, 2020, the actor was admitted to Mumbai's Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital due to a colon infection. Irrfan was kept in ICU, and sadly, on April 29, 2020, the iconic actor had breathed his last and had shocked the entire globe with the news of his untimely demise.
While on one side, late Irrfan Khan is being honoured almost at every film festival around the globe. On the other, his doting sons, Babil Khan and Ayaan Khan are making sure that they do their bit perfectly to honour their father's legacy. For instance, on March 27, 2021, Babil took to his Instagram stories and shared some blurry videos in which we could see his younger brother, Ayaan working on a sound-making software. The big brother, Babil had revealed that Ayaan is a music producer, and together, they're soon going to compose an album to honour their late father's legacy. While atop one clip, Babil wrote, "That instant better quality when you're working with your brother who's also a music producer", on the other, he penned, "What could be better for Baba's legacy if me and my brother drop an album on you all." On March 25, 2021, the much-awaited prestigious Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards happened in Hollywood Bowl, California. The best movies, television shows, actors, directors, and others received awards and recognition for their tremendous work. In the award ceremony, there was a segment called 'In Memoriam', in which the PGA awards celebrated the iconic and legendary members from the film fraternity, who had passed away last year in 2020. Irrfan Khan's name was featured among other 20 greats from different countries, and it was indeed a moment of immense pride for all the Indians. However, there was a slight glitch to the memorable moment, as the makers of the award ceremony got Irrfan's name misspelt as 'Irrif Kahn'. But it was a pure human error as we also spotted another typing error when late Steven Yeun's name was displayed and misspelt as 'Steven Yuen'. For the unversed, Irrfan had worked in so many big Hollywood blockbusters that had cemented his status as one of the most celebrated Indian-origin actors in the world. For instance, he had appeared in films like The Amazing Spider-Man, Life of Pi, Jurassic World, Inferno, and many more.

It was late Irrfan Khan's birth anniversary on January 7, 2021, and his doting son, Babil Khan had taken to his IG handle and had shared an unseen video of his baba, where his family could be seen doing face timing him. Along with the video, Babil had written, "You never identified with institutions such as contractual marriage and birthday celebrations. Perhaps, that is why I don't remember anyone's birthdays because you never remembered mine and never encouraged me to remember yours. It was just normal to us what seemed absurd from the outside, we celebrated everyday (bringing personal experiential authenticity to the cliche). On the occasion, Mamma would have to remind us both; but this time I could not forget yours if I tried. It's your birthday Baba. Shoutout to all the technologically inept parents, notice that they did not finish saying that they miss me."
