Late legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar's ashes were immersed in the holy river Ganges at Varanasi on March 9, 2022, and it made her sister, Usha Mangeshkar, utterly emotional.
Late legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar is one of the greatest playback singers of all time. From recording songs in 36 Indian languages to being bestowed with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989, Lata Mangeshkar was the first Indian to perform at Royal Albert Hall, London. However, apart from her illustrious career that is second to none, she was also famous and loved by everyone for her humble and kind nature.

Late legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar's sister, Usha Mangeshkar took her late sister's ashes to Varanasi and immersed them with a heavy heart in the river Ganges. It was a heartbreaking moment for the doting sister to bid the final farewell to her sister, whom she had always loved and respected. As per the reports, Usha Mangeshkar, with some other family members, took a boat ride to the Ahilyabai Ghat from the famous Khidkiya Ghat. The religious rituals were done by a renowned priest, Shrikant Pathak at the Ghat, after which Lata Mangeshkar's ashes were immersed in the ancient holy river, Ganges. During the holy ceremony, Usha couldn't stop her tears from flowing down on her cheeks, as it was painful for her to say the last goodbye to her sister.
Like her sister, late Lata Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar has lent her voice to a series of iconic films, one of the famous ones being the hit item number of the late 70s, Mungda. In an old throwback interview with DT Next, Usha had spoken about her star sisters, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle's influence in her life. She had said:
"They have been a guiding force, indeed. Both of my sisters have inspired me to be a better version of myself and not only as an individual but as a singer as well. I'll always carry a lot of gratitude and love for them in my heart."

Going further in the same interview, Usha Mangeshkar had also revealed whether the phenomenal success of her sisters, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle had paved her way towards playback singing in the Hindi film industry. Answering this, she had said:
"I have never compared my success or my music with anybody. Yes, I am privileged to be born in the family of successful singers, indeed. But I believe, I have paved on my own way through it all. My path has been led by music and music alone. Shrunk opportunities have never been a question."
In a 2016 interview with the Hindustan Times, Lata Mangeshkar was asked if her equally talented siblings, Usha Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle did not get the rightful amount of acknowledgement due to her own popularity. To this, she had shared:
"I disagree with that. Today in Maharashtra it's not just me who's recognised. We are known collectively as the Mangeshkar family. But yes, to an extent the belief that other trees cannot grow under a banyan tree is applicable to my family."
No matter what, Lata Mangeshkar will be in our hearts forever!
