You will be shocked to know that the one who had stolen Rajinikanth's heart away was a college girl whom he had met for an interview. In 1980, Rajinikanth was busy making Thillu Mullu, the Tollywood version of the movie, Golmaal and that was when Latha Rangachari had requested him for a meeting. The moment he had come face-to-face with her, the actor had decided to be with the girl for the rest of his life.
As the interview had progressed, Cupid had done his job by hitting the decisive arrow. Rajinikanth had hardly experienced the same feelings before. Without thinking twice, he was certain that he had wanted to marry her and had put forward his proposal then and there. However, a proposal from a star had stumped the college-going Latha. Still, she was under her control and had smiled, saying that she would discuss this with her parents. That very moment had sealed the bond of the ‘match made in heaven’ couple.
Latha Rangachari was a student of English literature at Ethiraj College in Chennai when she was given this interview assignment for her college magazine. One thing was common between Latha and Rajinikanth, the city, Bangalore. Rajinikanth was earlier employed in Bangalore Transport Service as a bus conductor and Latha’s family had owned a house there. This had become a ground for the couple to be comfortable during the interview.

No doubt, Latha had got overwhelmed with the idea to marry an established actor at that time. However, Rajinikanth had come across as a humble and modest human being, her fondness had grown towards him and soon enough, love had followed them. As time had passed, they both had got attracted to each other. In an interview with Sun TV in 2012, she had stated:
"He did not propose to me, he informed me that he was marrying me and left."
For those who don't know, the fierce actor, Rajinikanth was scared to meet his then-girlfriend, Latha's parents. Luckily, he had discovered that Latha’s sister, Sudha was married to someone from the Tamil movie industry. He had taken his help and had also roped in some seniors from his world to get into the process of meeting her parents. However, the meeting was a positive one, and Latha’s parents had shown him a green signal to take the plunge and get married.
