Once in an interview, Madhubala's sister, Madhur Bhushan, had opened up about the reports suggesting that her sister's husband, Kishore Kumar used to abuse the actress. Here's what she revealed!
Over the generations, we have seen many renowned filmmakers, writers, and critics naming late Madhubala as the greatest actress in the history of Indian cinema because of the way she used to get inside the skin of her every character, which speaks volumes about her versatility till today. However, her personal life had utterly overshadowed her illustrious career.
In a career spanning over just two decades, late Madhubala had received several offers from Hollywood and was adored with titles like 'The Venus of Indian Cinema' and 'Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood'. The actress had given love multiple chances in her life, only to end up being all alone on her deathbed. Madhubala had got married to the late iconic singer, Kishore Kumar, in 1960, but it had turned out to be an incomplete love story, as they couldn't spend much time together, because of the diagnoses of a hole in her heart.

Once in an interview with Rediff.com, Madhubala's sister, Madhur Bhushan, had opened up about the last years of her sister's life. The doting sister had recalled the tragic time when doctors had told Madhubala that she only had two years to live in this world. Madhur had also opened up about her sister's husband, Kishore Kumar and had shared how he had reacted to the painful news. She had stated that Kishore used to visit her once every two months because he was trying to detach himself from her. She had said:
"After marriage they flew to London where the doctor told her she had only two years to live. After that Kishore left her at our house saying: 'I can't look after her. I'm on outdoors often'. But she wanted to be with him. He'd visit her once in two months, though. Maybe he wanted to detach himself from her so that the final separation wouldn't hurt."
In the same interview, Madhur Bhushan had also revealed the truth behind media reports that had once suggested that her sister, Madhubala's husband, Kishore Kumar used to beat her. Refuting the reports, Madhur had clearly stated that Kishore had never abused her sister and all the reports that had suggested the same were false. She had also added that it was Kishore who had taken full responsibility for Madhubala's medical expenses. She had said:
"But he never abused her as was reported. He bore her medical expenses."

For the unversed, Madhubala had met Kishore Kumar when they were shooting for Chalti Ka Naam Gadi and Half Ticket. They had gotten married in 1960, post which they had flown down to London where she was detected with a hole in her heart, and the doctors had said that she had only two years to live.
It was in the year 1969, when the iconic actress, Madhubala was all set to make her directorial debut with the film, Farz Aur Ishq, but the project was terminated at the pre-production stage because of her illness that had gotten worse at that time. After fighting like a warrior against the life-threatening disease, Madhubala had breathed her last on February 23, 1969, sadly, just nine days after her 36th birthday.
