Madhuri Dixit has reportedly bought Rs. 1.5 crore worth of secondary shares of the food delivery giant, Swiggy before it makes an entry in the stock market.
Bollywood actors are not only proficient in acting but have strong business understanding as well. They have either started their businesses or invested in significant brands, and the newest actor to join the list is Madhuri Dixit. Madhuri is one of the most popular actresses in Bollywood who has ruled the industry for more than three decades. She acted in over 70 Hindi films and is known for her beauty, acting talent, and dance style. Since the last decade, Madhuri has become selective in her roles. At the same time, she has become an investor for various brands, and the newest one to join the list is Swiggy.
As per reports by Moneycontrol, Madhuri Dixit has bought Swiggy shares with Innov8 founder, Ritesh Malik. For the unversed, Innov8 is a co-working space player that Oyo now owns. Madhuri and Ritesh bought shares worth Rs. 3 crore from the secondary market. It implies that they each invested Rs. 1.5 crore, amounting to Rs. 345 per share. The deal comes before the food delivery platform Swiggy can debut in the stock market.
The reports suggest that Swiggy aims for a Rs. 1.5 billion IPO later this year. A secondary market transaction means that they bought Swiggy's shares from another investor or company without Swiggy's involvement. Swiggy, along with its rival, Zomato, has a share of 90-95% in India's growing food delivery market. The Bengaluru-based company is presently valued at around Rs.9-9.3 billion.
The news comes after Amitabh Bachchan's family office purchased a minor stake in Swiggy in August 2024. They invested strategically by buying shares from Swiggy's employees and early investors, taking advantage of India's growing quick commerce sector.
Before her investment in Swiggy, Madhuri Dixit has invested in many other companies. She is an angel investor who invests her money in promising companies in exchange for equity. As per Pitchbook, she has invested in companies like Purple Style Labs and GOQii within the clothing and healthcare services industries. Moreover, she recently made an investment in Hive Hostels within the Hotels and Resorts industry on August 28, 2024.
On the work front, Madhuri Dixit was last seen in the Hindi-drama film, Maja Ma, co-starring Gajraj Rao, Ritwik Bhowmik, and Barkha Singh in 2022. She also produced a Marathi film, Panchak. The actress will next be seen in the movie, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, co-starring Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan, and Triptii Dimri.
