The Maha Kumbh Mela held in Prayagraj saw industrialist Anil Ambani and his wife, Tina Ambani. The Kumbh Mela in 2025 commenced on January 13, 2025, on the auspicious day of Paush Purnima. The 50-day-long religious Hindu festival saw people from all walks of life taking a holy dip at Ganga, Yamuna's confluence, and Saraswati's mythical river in Prayagraj.
A video has gone viral where Anil Ambani was seen walking towards the boat after taking a holy dip in the river. He had worn a white-hued kurta, and pyjama, and a couple of police officials had accompanied him. He was then seen waiting with Tina on the anchor, and it looked like they were waiting to catch a boat amid tight security. Anil was then seen in the sacred water of Prayagraj seeking divine help. Tina had worn a simple red-hued kurta teamed with jeans.
For the unversed, this is not Anil's first visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela. Earlier, in February 2013, he took a platonic plunge at Sangam with his mother, Kokilaben Ambani. According to a Times Of India report, 10 crore devotees had turned up at the Sangam. The holy snan in the Maha Kumbh is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Anil and Tina's kids, Jai Anmol and Jai Anshul Ambani, were not seen in the video, and it looked like only Anil and Tina went to Prayagraj to seek the holy blessings.
Multiple reports online revealed that Anil and Tina had first gone to Bodh Gaya, Bihar. They had paid a visit to Lord Buddha's religious place and it is believed under a banayan tree, Lord Buddha had attained enlightenment after doing meditation. Anil and Tina had offered prayers there and had also done pind-daan for the peace of the souls of their departed ancestors in Gaya. Reportedly, Anil had also done meditation under the Bodhi tree, and after completing the same he had left for Prayagraj to attend the majestic Maha Kumbh Mela.
Reports suggest that Anil and Tina had first offered prayers at the Vishnupad temple in Gaya and then had gone to Mangla Guri and the Mahabodhi temple where they did the pind-daan ritual for the ancestors. The Gaya district authorities had made strict security arrangements for Anil and Tina Ambani.
The Maha Kumbh Mela is expected to have reportedly 400 million visitors in 2025. It is said that after taking the holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, one is rid of sins and granted spiritual liberation. Folk representations and mythological dramatisation of events through drone shows showcasing Hindu scriptures and the surreal night view of the Kumbh Mela mesmerising the experience.The Maha Kumbh Mela's seed is rooted in the Sanatan Dharma and the religious event is an auspicious time for a spiritual detox and being in devotion.
