One of the most sought-after gossips of the early 80's Bollywood was the relationship of the late actress, Parveen Babi, with an already married film director, Mahesh Bhatt. For the unversed, their affair happened when Mahesh was already married to his first wife, Kiran Bhatt and had their daughter, Pooja, in their lives. On the other hand, for Parveen, it was a time when she was delving deeper into the dungeons of alcoholism and schizophrenia right at the peak of her career. In the same interview with Arbaaz Khan, Mahesh recalled the traumatic testing times and said:
“It was not a beautiful relationship. When Silsila released, I said that extramarital relationships do not happen in tulip gardens, they take place in a shady, dark land, we will hide, feeling of sin, it was a traumatic phase with Parveen.”
Well, the world knows how Mahesh Bhatt stood beside his love, Parveen Babi, in her life's most difficult times. Despite the world shunning him for having an extra-marital relationship, he never left her side and proved his honest love for her. Further in the interview, Mahesh Bhatt shared how he had hijacked Parveen from her ongoing shoot of the film, Shaan, to treat her for her mental illness in Bangalore. Sharing more about it, he mentioned:
“That was the time when I ran away with her. There was a set of Shaan put up and she was a big part of that film. At that time, mental illness was an enigma, and it still is. Doctors said it will take her 6-8 weeks for her to come back to functional normalcy. But they didn’t have that much time, the foreign stuntmen and all… I understand the impatience of the industry because a lot of money was riding on her. That is when I hijacked her and took her away to Bangalore.”

Even after loving and caring utmost for Parveen Babi, his love for her did not culminate in fulfilment, and the couple parted ways. Revealing the same, Mahesh mentioned how his close friend, UG Krishnamurti, helped him overcome his disturbed personal life with Parveen, which also affected his professional commitments. His friend had advised him to leave her if he loved her truly. In his words:
“I did not meet her after we parted ways in the 80s. UG helped me a lot. He told me, ‘You will not be out of this business and she is unfit for this business, if you really love her, leave her.”
