Mahima Chaudhry opened up about her troubled marriage and how she underwent two miscarriages during that time.
The charming Mahima Chaudhry had made a permanent place in everyone’s heart with her debut film, Pardes. With her role of a shy, patriot girl, ‘Ganga’, Mahima had become everyone’s Mehbooba overnight. Her on-screen presence, dialogue delivery, and effortless acting had won many applauses from critics and fans. But after some of her films had doomed at the box office, her professional, as well as personal life, had taken a toll on her, forcing the actress to take a break from acting after 2010.
Mahima had dated Tennis star, Leander Paes, but after some time, the two had broken up. After the breakup, Mahima had gotten married to a Kolkata-based architect, Bobby Mukherjee on March 19, 2006. Bobby was a divorcee and was considering giving marriage a second shot when he had met Mahima. The two married in an intimate ceremony, which was kept under the wraps. In 2007, Mahima had embraced motherhood and had given birth to a baby girl and had named her Aryana. After some years of their marriage, the couple had started facing troubles in their marital life, resulting in a divorce.
In a recent interview, Mahima talked about her troubled marriage with Bobby Mukherjee and how she had undergone two miscarriages during that period. Revealing why she didn’t discuss her marital problems with her family and friends, Mahima said,
“You obviously don't tell your parents, you don't tell your people because you feel 'oh, this was one issue' and then you stay back and then one more issue and then you stay back and then I also had a - I was also expecting another child and I had a miscarriage. And then I had another miscarriage, it was all because of you not being happy in that space. Every time I wanted to go out and do an event, go out and do a show, I used to come drop my child at my mother's home and then I stayed back two days and I used to feel I'm so much more comfortable here.”
Throughout the difficult phase, her husband, Bobby didn’t even bother to be by her side. Mahima also revealed that her family was very supportive when she opened up about her marital woes to them. Sharing how her mother reacted, Mahima said,
“She said, 'I saw you struggling, I saw you up and down, and why are you beating yourself up? If it's not, stay here for a while and see does it make you feel better."
After her debut film, Pardes, Mahima had gone missing from the silver screen for two years. The reason behind that was during the shoot of Ajay Devgn and Kajol's home production, Dil Kya Kare, Mahima had a massive accident where a truck had hit her car. The glass of her car had gone mostly into her face and in the surgery, the doctors had taken out 67 glass pieces. The devastating accident had left a deep mark on Mahima, both physically and mentally.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Mahima had once talked about the difficulties of being a single mother. She had said,
“It was largely difficult for me because I depend a lot. Obviously, I came back and started living with my parents and you depend a lot on your parents. That was the time when my mother was diagnosed with an illness and that was a time when she needed help and she could not be of that great help for raising my child. So, when I left for work, it was like leaving a toddler, and leaving my mother who needed assistance as well, so I had to completely depend on my staff. My dad had to live Darjeeling. Then I had a sister who had a child too and she was single. So, it almost became like we both were raising children together.”
We hope to see Mahima on the big screen soon!
