Amid rumours about her breakup with Arjun Kapoor, an old interview of Malaika Arora, wherein she talked about her divorce from Arbaaz Khan and her family's reaction to this, resurfaced online.
Bollywood fashion queen, Malaika Arora was earlier married to actor, Arbaaz Khan. For the unversed, they tied the knot in December 1998 and were blessed with their first child, a son whom they named Arhaan, in November 2002. However, the couple left their millions of fans shocked with the news of their separation after 19 years of marriage. Finally, they parted ways in May 2017. In December 2023, Arbaaz got married to ace makeup artist, Sshura Khan. On the other hand, while Malaika was reportedly dating Arjun Kapoor for a long time, now recently, rumours surfaced on the internet about their breakup.
Malaika Arora has always been vocal about her personal life decisions. Once, India Today quoted Malaika opening up about her divorce from Arbaaz Khan on Kareena Kapoor Khan’s radio show, What Women Want. During the conversation, Malaika mentioned how her family never wanted her to go ahead with her decision to get a divorce from Arbaaz. Elaborating more on it, she mentioned:
“I think, sab ki pehli yehi raai hai ki mat karna. Koi aapko nahi kahega ki, ‘Haan, haan, please jayiye, kariye.’ That’s the first thing, ki aap soch samajh ke yeh decision lena. I went through the same thing.”

Further, Malaika recalled how her family asked her about her decision even the night before her divorce from Arbaaz. However, the fashionista mentioned that her family always felt proud after she firmly made her decision and called her a 'strong woman', giving her immense strength to be adamant about her decision. She added:
“Even the night before I got divorced, I had my family sit with me and ask me yet again, ‘Are you sure? Are you 100 per cent about your decision?’ These are the people who worry and care so they will definitely say that. Everybody said, ‘If this is the decision that you’re making, then we’re really proud of you and in our eyes, you are a strong woman.’ So for me, that kind of gave me that extra strength that I needed.”
Recently, rumours started surfacing on the internet claiming Malaika Arora and Arjun Kapoor have parted their ways. Amid all that, Malaika’s manager, in a brief conversation with India Today, clarified that the couple has not broken up and that everything is fine between them. However, taking to his IG stories on June 1, 2024, Arjun shared a somewhat cryptic note. Without sharing any picture or other post, the actor penned a note elaborating on a man's two choices, either to dwell in the prisons of the past or explore the future. The note could be read as:
“We have two choices in life. We can be prisoners of our past or explorers of future possibilities.”

A few months ago, Malaika and Arbaaz's son, Arhaan hosted a podcast titled Dumb Biryani and also invited his parents to open up about many aspects of their lives. During one of the segments of the show, Arhaan advised his mother to give herself more time instead of prioritising her work, and the actress too, immediately agreed with him. Then, Arhaan asked his mother the most anticipated question about her wedding.
He said, “The nation wants to know when are you getting married mother? I want an exact date, a venue, a destination and to whom.” However, refusing to reveal her wedding plans, Malaika said, “I’m better off eating a mirchi. I can’t answer that. I don’t know have an answer to it. I think I’m living my best life now.” Well, netizens are joining the dots to speculate that it was Malaika's probable hint about her breakup with Arjun.
