Malaika recently sat for a candid conversation with Curly Tales and reflected on her early start. She discussed what motivated her to start working at such a young age to attain independence.
In the latest episode of Curly Tales, Malaika reflected on the time her mother, Joyce Polycarp, used to get calls from her college. She revealed that her mother was called because of her short attendance. During the conversation, Malaika shared that she had finished two years at Jai Hind College when she started her modelling career. However, it became challenging to balance when her mother was summoned to the college for her attendance. Malaika revealed:
"I did actually finish my two years of college at Jai Hind. Then I started modelling. It was getting very difficult because meri mummy ko college se call aane lag gaye because of my poor college attendance that my attendance is not up to the mark."
Malaika Arora shared that she also started doing a few ads and a few shows during that time. It was after she scored a few projects that she sat with her mother and told her mother that she wanted to work. Malaika revealed that she had made this decision as she wanted to be independent.
In the same conversation, Malaika Arora was asked if she was chasing fame or independence. The actress replied that she wanted to be independent as she needed something that would give her some value. She added that her money was just a byproduct of the work she does as she didn't have to be the breadwinner of her house, but she still wanted to contribute towards her home. Malaika was quoted saying:
"I want to be independent. I needed to do something which gave me some sort of value. Where money is concerned, Money is a byproduct of any work that you do. I didn't need to run my home. But I felt it was a good way to help my mom because she was a single mother. I felt it would be nice to contribute to that situation as well. Not that my mom ever expected it, but I felt it was my duty as the older daughter."
