Ashmit Patel walked down the memory lane and recalled how Mallika Sherawat grabbed all the limelight from him and Emraan Hashmi during 'Murder'. He said that she falsely accused him of choking her.
Mallika Sherawat is one of the glamorous actresses in the Hindi film industry. The actress made her debut with a small role in the movie, Jeena Sirf Merre Liye, wherein her first name, Reema Lamba, was used. For the unversed, Mallika's real name was Reema, and she had changed it so that people wouldn't confuse her with another actress, Reema. However, Mallika's role in Hindi movies like Khwahish and Murder gave people something to talk about. Apart from that, Mallika was seen in a couple of Hindi movies and even in international projects. In a recent interview, Mallika's Murder co-star, Ashmit Patel made some shocking revelations about the actress.
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ashmit Patel shared that it was Mallika Sherawat who stole the limelight during the release of the film, Murder rather than him and Emraan Hashmi. The actor also recalled an incident when the actress had even accused him of choking her, and the director of Murder, Mahesh Bhatt, had also reacted to the same.

Ashmit Patel said that in Murder, his and Mallika's characters were in a marriage of inconvenience, and he thought it would be better for the film if he could keep the tension between them alive even in real life. Ashmit stated that even if Mallika tried to break the ice between them on the sets, he was a bit distant.
Sharing the reason behind the same, Ashmit added that he wasn't at all trying to be cold, but he wasn't trying to be too friendly as well so that the coldness between them could be visible on the camera. The actor mentioned that the actress couldn't understand his intention, or perhaps he should have conveyed this message to her. Ashmit said:
"Our characters were in a marriage of convenience. I tried to do some method acting, and tried to keep some distance from Mallika’s character. So, when she tried a couple of times to break the ice with me on set, I was a little bit distant. I wasn’t trying to be cold, but I wasn’t trying to be friendly so that I could keep that tension between us personally, so that it would translate on camera. Maybe she didn’t understand that, or maybe I should’ve told her, or Anurag Basu, the director, to convey this to her…”
Speaking along the same lines, Ashmit Patel stated that during one scene, when he had to choke the actress, he asked Naseruddin Shah for tips. The actor said that Naseeruddin shared a technique with him wherein the screen would feature the actor putting in all the efforts to choke his co-star, but the latter would not actually get hurt. Ashmit stated that when the shot was cut, Mallika made a little bit of an issue out of the same, and a complaint was even made against him to Mahesh Bhatt. He remarked:
"There was one scene where I had to choke her. I’d asked Naseeruddin Shah once what the correct way to choke someone on camera is, and he’d shared a technique with me where it would look like you’re putting in all your power, but not actually harming your co-star. But after the shot was cut, she made a little bit of an issue out of it."
Talking about the same, Ashmit mentioned that Mahesh Bhatt asked him to apologise to the actress, but the former denied it. Ashmit said that he suggested that everyone should review the monitor, and if it was proved that he didn't do anything, Mallika should apologise to him, which never happened. Ashmit mentioned:
"Bhatt saab came to speak to me and told me to apologise to her. I said, ‘But I didn’t do anything. Let’s go watch the monitor, and if you feel I choked her, I’ll apologise. But if not, then she must apologise to me’. I didn’t get an apology…”

In the same interview, Ashmit shared that Mallika was much ahead of her time, and she took a lot of credit for the film, which none of the cast received. He revealed that during the promotions of Murder, he was sent to small publications, and it made him upset. Ashmit can be quoted as saying:
"She was very ahead of her time, she knew how to play the PR game, and she took away a lot of the credit for the film, which neither me nor Emraan nor Anurag Basu get… During promotions, I was sent to the not-so-big publications, which left a bad taste in my mouth, it upset me a little bit. But that’s the game.”
