Manav Kaul was born on December 19, 1976, in Kashmir's Baramulla. The actor reportedly studied till class IV at Kashmir's Saint Joseph's School. However, after completing class IV, Manav Kaul's parents left Kashmir and shifted to Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh. They shifted to that particular place because Manav Kaul's maternal home was in Hoshangabad.

Talking about the same in an interview with ETimes, Manav shared that he took a break from acting because he is an idealist and cannot do anything that is against his values. Sharing more details about his decision, Manav admitted that he is glad that he took that step as it has made him the actor he is today. He said:
"I started saying no after my debut film, and eventually, I thought it is much better to take a break. The kind of actor I am right now, is because of the 13-year break. Otherwise, I would have been terrible. I would have earned a lot of money, but I would have been unhappy. So, the break actually saved me. I am an idealist, that's my problem. I have never done anything that I don't like."

In an interview with ETimes, when Manav was asked about the reason behind his singlehood in his late 40s, the actor gave an interesting answer. The handsome actor clearly stated that he doesn't want to be with someone else because he is deeply in love with his work. Manav explained how his idea of love is broader than just being in a relationship with a person. He said:
"I am single right now and happy. I know myself and I don't see myself getting married. This is how I always wanted my life to be. I am completely in love with my work, and I find absolute comfort and solace in it. Now, to get someone else involved in this won't do justice to them. My idea of love is broader. I feel romantically connected with each character that I write or enact."
