Mandira Bedi performed the last rites of her husband, Raj Kaushal at his funeral. While some praised her for breaking the stereotypes by performing the rituals, other section of society trolled her.
The morning of June 30, 2021, had come as a shock for everyone in the entertainment industry with the reports of Mandira Bedi's filmmaker-husband, Raj Kaushal's sudden demise. When around 4 am Raj complained about getting a heart attack, Mandira had called their close friend, Ashish Chowdhry and they rushed him to the hospital. But, before they could reach, it was too late and Raj left the world forever, leaving his wife, Mandira and two kids, Vir Kaushal and Tara Bedi Kaushal, behind!

Mandira Bedi is shaken to the core by the sudden demise of Raj Kaushal. When Raj's body was taken for the final rites, Mandira was inconsolable and her friends, Ronit Roy, Ashish Chowdhry, Huma Qureshi, Apurva Agnihotri and others had stood by her to give her solace and bid adieu to their friend, Raj. Also, it was Mandira, who performed the last rites of her husband, Raj at his funeral. Mandira was praised for being a brave woman, who slammed the patriarchy and broke the stereotypes by performing the rituals.
However, a section of the society was appalled by Mandira Bedi and trolled her for performing her husband's final rites. Many also called her out for wearing a white t-shirt and jeans at the funeral. Mandira's close friend and actor, Mini Mathur and singer, Sona Mohapatra spoke in support of the actress, applauded her for being brave and condemned society for being a strong woman. For the unversed, the final rites of a person are traditionally performed by male members of the family.
Slamming the trolls, Mini Mathur tweeted, "Makes me sick that people are having a field day trolling a grieving woman for performing last rites on her husband instead of asking a stranger or her tiny kid. Or for not having the time to dress the way THEY imagine grieving women should dress. Fools!! Applaud her strength!"

Mini Mathur’s tweet came hours after Sona Mohapatra's reaction to Mandira Bedi getting trolled. Sona tweeted, "That some people are still commenting on Mandira Bedi’s dress code or choice to carry out her husband Raj Kushal’s last rites shouldn’t surprise us. Stupidity is more abundant than any other element in our world after all." We strongly agree with Mini and Sona and it's highly insensitive of trolls to attack Mandira!
On June 30, it was Raj Kaushal's friend, director Onir, who had informed about the filmmaker's demise with his tweet, "Gone too soon. We lost Filmmaker and Producer @rajkaushal1 this morning. Very Sad. He was one of the producers of my first film #MyBrotherNikhil. One of those few who believed in our vision and supported us. Prayers for his soul."
