Vidhu Vinod Chopra's film altered that. Manisha has now disclosed, nonetheless, that she nearly lost her job in the movie.

Manisha Koirala shares that Vidhu Vinod Chopra told her she can't act

In an interview with ANI, the actor recalled how Vidhu Vinod Chopra used to scold her during her first screen test. Manisha Koirala said he even told her that she 'couldn't act.'

Manisha recalled her early days working on a project that seemed enormous at the time. She acknowledged that the first screen test was difficult and didn't proceed as expected. She became aware of the amount of work required to succeed after Vinod pointed out that her acting abilities were lacking and it needed to be improved. She put in endless effort to show herself, and eventually, she convinced Vinod to give her another chance.

It took unwavering dedication and concentration to get a second chance. Manisha Koirala realised that complacency was not an option during this process. Every script reading at Vinod's house served as a springboard, enabling her to comprehend the degree of commitment required for the project. In her words:

"I had never done something like this. At that time, this project was massive. And I got scolded during my first screen test. Vinod had told me that you don't know how to act. So I worked very hard and requested him to give me one more chance. So he did. I got it with a lot of hard work. And I had understood that during this entire thing, I could not slack. I have to figure it out and I have to do my best. I got to know about this during the screen test. We used to do a script reading at Vinod's place."

1942: A Love Story, which starred Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor, was set in pre-independence India. Manisha felt under pressure to perform with two well-known actors at such a young age in her career.

Manisha Koirala revealed that Vinod frequently reminded her of the significance of her part in the movie, stressing that her character's appeal was essential to the plot. He urged her to make every effort to project the ideal of beauty on film, pointing out that it was essential for her to look perfect for the plot to feel genuine. He wanted every viewer to believe in her character's attraction fully and not feel misled by his direction, so he was clear that any disconnect would run the danger of disappointing them. Manisha Koirala said:

"Vinod used to tell me, 'Look, Manisha, both the superstars are in love with you in the film. So you better do everything to look beautiful. No matter what you do, I don't know, but you have to look perfect. It shouldn't feel like I'm lying as a director. The audience shouldn't feel cheated."

The actress acknowledged that she knew little about the business at the time because she was new to it. Manisha said that Vidhu Vinod Chopra's encouragement and direction helped her through it.
