Legendary boxer, Mary Kom appeared in 'The Great Indian Kapil Show' and had a slight rift with the show's host, Kapil Sharma, after he made repetitive jokes about boxers and boxing.
The Great Indian Kapil Show's eleventh episode featured a stellar line-up of India's recognised sportspersons, Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal, Sift Kaur Samra, and Mary Kom. The episode received a lot of love from the audience, as it was a treat for Indians to witness these legendary sportspersons, who have contributed heavily to India's spectacular success in sports. However, the episode is getting a lot of attention after what happened between India's legendary boxer, Mary Kom and the show's host, Kapil Sharma.
During a segment in the show, Kapil Sharma asked Mary Kom about the mouthguards that boxers use in boxing during their matches. The comedian told Mary that he had seen boxing only in movies and hadn't been aware of mouthguards for a long time. Kapil jokingly added that he always wondered why every boxer ate a pan before his fight. However, the comedian revealed that he got to know about mouthguards much later in life. The confession left the audience in splits. He said:
"Mary, I watch boxing in movies, and before the fight, the coach puts a denture guard in the boxer's mouth. 'Why does every boxer chew pan before boxing?' was a question I used to have. I learned about this really late."

After hearing Kapil's statement, Mary Kom's facial expressions changed in split seconds, and it was clearly visible that she was upset by his joke. The comedian told the former boxer, "Don't be angry", in response to which Mary said:
"No, I am not, I have never been angry but now, you are enraging me. You've been pulling my leg."
After sensing that Mary Kom was still angry, Kapil Sharma tried to calm her down, but the former gave a fitting response to him within seconds. She went on to explain the reason why boxers wear mouthguards and added that even in ice hockey, players wear mouthguards. Mary Kom circled Kapil as she told him that he deliberately pin-pointed boxing. In her explosive statement, Mary Kom said:
"We wear the guard to protect our teeth. Not only in boxing but it is used for ice hockey as well. But you just pointed out boxing."
