The show, which ran for two years from 2000 to 2002, saw its lead pair, Ram Kapoor and Gautami Gadgil, fall head-over-heels in love with one another. Despite being starkly opposite to one another, Ram and Gautami found love in each other’s arms and began their happily ever after. Born in Mumbai into a Maharashtrian family, Gautami Gadgil completed her graduation from Ruia College and embarked on a career in the entertainment world. Gautami began her career in 1997 with a suspense thriller show, Saturday Suspense. Gautami later made guest appearances in shows like Family No. 1 and CID.
However, it was the show, Ghar Ek Mandir, with which Gautami became a household name, and her popularity rose manifolds. Gautami is also remembered for her role as ‘Dr Jaya Aditya Pratap Singh’ in the show, Kehta Hai Dil.
Gautami later proved her versatility as an actor with shows like Dhadkan, Lipstick, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Qubool Hai, Tere Sheher Mein and many others. Gautami forayed into films in 1999 with the Marathi film, Bindhast, followed by films like Kuch Na Kaho, Fanaa, Student of the Year, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Lekar Hum Deewana Dil and Satyameva Jayate 2.
Before meeting television’s heartthrob, Gautami was married to commercial photographer, Madhur Shroff. However, their wedding didn’t last long as soon after their marriage, the duo started having differences. Despite continuous efforts, Gautami and Madhur couldn’t sort out their differences and got divorced.

It was on the sets of their show, Ghar Ek Mandir in 2000, when Gautami met the dashing Ram Kapoor. Gautami played the role of Ram’s bhabhi (sister-in-law), who became his wife later in the serial. Their on-screen chemistry mesmerised the audience, and their popularity as an on-screen couple won many accolades.
Ram and Gautami were poles apart, as she was very reserved, and he, on the contrary, like a true Punjabi, was full of life and popular among women. However, as destiny would have it, the duo started liking each other’s company and became great friends. Soon, they develop feelings for each other, and during a wild party, Ram proposes to Gautami, and she instantly accepts his proposal.
Ram Kapoor and Gautami faced initial protests from their family because of their different cultures, but the duo convinced their respective families. They chose the day of love, i.e., February 14, 2003, to get married. Gautami is a Maharashtrian and Ram is a Punjabi, but they tied the knot as per Arya Samaj rituals. The couple soon hopped on to parenthood and welcomed their daughter, Sia, in 2006 and son, Aks, in 2009.

At the launch of Ram’s show, Zindagi Ke Crossroads, Ram was questioned about how his wife, Gautami, had contributed to shaping his career. And without much ado, the doting husband stated:
"The reason why I am doing so well professionally is Gautami; it's only because of her. I am really lucky to have a wife from the industry who understands how it works here, who understands the pros and cons of the industry. She never asks me why am I working late night or travelling a lot. She just understands me so well."

In 2019, Ram Kapoor garnered a lot of limelight for his transformation as the actor reduced 30 kgs in just seven months. At the age of 44, Ram took a transformation journey to have a healthy lifestyle. In an interaction with the Times of India, the actor revealed that he wanted to set an example for his kids, and his inspiration was none other than his wife, Gautami. Heaping praises on her, he said:
“My wife Gautami loves me the way I am. She never pressurised me to lose weight or made me feel I am overweight. But whenever I looked at her, I felt what an inspiration she is. Actually, Gautami is my inspiration because when I see how fit she is even after delivering two kids, I can’t help but get inspired. She has been my biggest strength and motivation throughout my journey."
Gautami Kapoor turned 48 in the year 2023, and her glamorous transformation is inspiring.
