Donald Trump might not be a favourite of many, but he never fails to make headlines with his instant law implications one after the other in the US. His wife, Melania Trump, is also not far behind, courtesy of her on-point looks. But recently, fashionmongers have been noticing how Melania has often taken cues from the late Princess Diana's sensational looks for important public events.
On January 20, 2025, Melania showed off her best fashion foot by appearing at her husband, Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony. She was dressed up in a sophisticated navy wool coat by Adam Lippes. Melania accentuated her look with a white-brimmed hat, which was the focal point of her look.
However, the late Princess Diana first wore this look, and eagle-eyed fans instantly found the similarities. In 1993, Diana left everyone in awe with a blue-and-white coloured coat from Catherine Walker. She styled it with a matching hat at the 50th anniversary of World War 2's Battle of the Atlantic. It seems like Melania took inspiration from Princess Diana's fashion book.
Looking back at Melania's fashion looks, in 2019, for a trip to Poland, Melania picked a chic two-tone coat with a contrasting lapel that made her look sharp and on-point. However, it was quite similar to Princess Diana's black and white suit and a Freddie Fox hat, which she wore in 1985.
Another time when Melania sported a look inspired by Princess Diana was in 2017. She picked a Dolce and Gabbana suit with a custom hat. Princess Diana's style inspired the timeless white look in 1995. However, the only point of difference was that 'Melania' was written all over it.
Donald Trump first met the former Slovenian-born model, Melania Knauss, in 1998 at a New York Fashion Week Party. Since Trump was already with a date after separating from his second wife, Marla Maples, Melania maintained a distance when he asked for her number. In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Melania revealed that she didn't give him the number.
