Question
My fiancée and I cannot seem to decide on a menu for our wedding reception. He wants to stick to North Indian but I don't want any North Indian dishes at the reception because I am bored of eating North Indian fare at home, all the time. I would prefer continental or any other cuisine but not North Indian. What do we do?

Answer
Indian weddings calls for grand feasts and you will definitely need to arrange for a wonderful wedding menu with a sumptuous spread. If you don’t want to eat North Indian fare at your wedding, it is perfectly okay. Depending on your budget you can blend cuisines and have a spread of North Indian fare (so your fiancée is happy) and continental fare (so you are happy) in your wedding reception menu. Although the choices of wedding food ideas are endless – Italian, French, Seafood or a generic one, it is your budget which is the limit. The budget will depend on the number of guests you are expecting too. If you are expecting over 1000 guests it would be quite expensive to arrange for an exotic spread. Again if you are willing to spend because it is a once-in-a lifetime event, nothing can stop you. In fact your wedding planner can only introduce the widest choice of vendors so you can choose a vendor you want. Let the caterer know in advance that you don’t want a purely North Indian spread or a purely continental spread. Professional wedding caterers will offer a great choice of menu and ensure that you get the services of the best chefs on your special day. They will even offer you menu tips for wedding and offer services (tables, chairs, and linens, as well as servers) as a part of the catering costs too.
