Every year, celebrities from all over the world wait with bated breath for the Met Gala, fashion’s biggest night. The event is graced by some of the A-listed celebrities from around the world in their most extraordinary and opulent fashion picks. For those who are unaware, the Met Gala is a charity and fundraiser event for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Over the years, several Indian celebrities have attended the event, including Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Natasha Poonawalla, and Alia Bhatt.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is all set to host this year’s Met Gala on May 6, 2024. As per the official announcement by Vogue, this year’s extravaganza will celebrate the Costume Institute's new exhibition, ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.’ The exhibition will showcase around 250 rare items from the Institute's permanent collection and feature designs by some of the most prominent fashion houses, such as Schiaparelli, Dior, and Givenchy, spanning over 400 years of fashion history.

Last year, the price of a single ticket for the event was set at USD 50,000, which was approximately Rs 40 lakh upon conversion to INR. Meanwhile, in 2023, the cost of an entire table was set at USD 300,000, which, upon conversion to INR, stood at Rs 2.5 crore. As per the fashion critic, Diet Sabya, in the 2000s, the price of an entire table was around USD 50,000, and now just a single ticket costs that much. Moreover, it is worth noting that Anna Wintour, the Editor-In-Chief of Vogue since 1988, and her team decided all tables, invitees, designers, clothes, guests, seating and timing for the event.

According to a report by Vogue, the official dress code for the Met Gala 2024 is ‘The Garden of Time’, inspired by J.G. Ballard's short story of the same title. Moreover, one can expect the celebrities to wear outfits featuring elements of nature. On February 15, 2024, Vogue's official Instagram revealed that Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Hemsworth, and Bad Bunny will co-chair the 2024 Met Gala alongside Anna Wintour. The invite for the event has been extended to around 450 biggies in the world of glitz and glam.
Last year, the Met Gala’s theme was ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty. ' The theme honoured the German fashion designer, who left for his heavenly abode in 2019. According to a report by the People, the event showcased around 150 of Lagerfeld's greatest designs, which he worked on during his career in fashion spanning over six decades. The dress code for the gala was ‘In honour of Karl.’ Moreover, it was chaired by Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel, Penelope Cruz and Roger Federer. Met Gala 2023 was attended by Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra, Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla, and Diya Mehta Jatia.
