Mohena Kumari Singh of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fame, hails from the royal family of Rewa and is a princess in real life. Mohena revealed the same on a dance reality show, Dance India Dance and had shared that her grandmother, Maharani Praveen Kumari, princess of Kutch, inspired her to take up dancing.
In an interview with India Today in 2012, Mohena Kumari Singh had stated that she wants to be known as an accomplished dancer and not just a princess. She had said, “The time has come for the royal families to stop imposing age-old rules and to change their outlook. I am aware of the strong opposition that will come from some royals, but, I want to follow my dreams and passion. I would want people to know me as an accomplished dancer rather than a princess. This is the first time anyone from a royal family has appeared in a reality show. I knew it from the day I auditioned for this show, that it would not be easy for my family to accept my decision. My father Maharaj Pushparaj Singh approved of me learning to dance as he thought it was just a hobby but he had warned me that I must stop it someday.”
Now, in an interview with The Times Of India, Mohena Kumari Singh spoke about how she balances her passion and makes sure she also abides by the protocols set by her family. Mohena, who comes from a royal family and is the princess of Rewa, is also the first from her family to have entered the entertainment business.
Talking about the same, Mohena Kumari Singh was quoted as saying, “There are a lot of responsibilities on my head coming from the family that I belong to. So what I do is I take my passion and a little bit of my sensibility knowing what the rules and regulations are at my place and put them together. Discipline is one big thing we follow in our family and I do not let go of it at all. I bring out a pretty good balance of it. Till date, I haven't gone overboard with anything, be it passion or restrictions. I make sure that things are balanced. To do this, I think you need to know where do you belong to, you have to know what your roots are. I know my roots and so keeping in mind my love for passion as well, I feel I balance it out. Also while doing this, I do lose out on a lot of things but it’s OK as it is one life and you can’t have everything.” (Also Read: Mohena Kumari Singh Flaunts Her Diamond Engagement Ring During An Instagram Live Session, Pic Inside)
Mohena Kumari Singh further revealed whether she had faced any restrictions from her royal family pertaining to the choice of her attires, given that she belongs in the glam world. Mohena remarked, “I have been reminded by my family that certain clothes can be avoided. But I have always taken it in the right spirit. I have parents and guardians who tell me that certain clothes aren't right and can be avoided sometimes. But they just suggest, they have never sat me down and enforced their opinions on me. When they give their opinions, I go in front of the mirror and take a look a myself deeply. If I feel that yes, they are right, I stick by their opinion and if I feel that I am fine and dressed properly, then I go ahead with what I want.”
Mohena Kumari Singh also spoke about how empowering women, by the women themselves is a must. She shared, “Strength is an innate quality in a woman that they already have which they don't tap into. A lot of women are brainwashed into believing that they aren't so smart. I don't think one needs to believe in it at all. I see around me how a lot of women have no self confidence and that makes me feel really sad. I don't know why the society has to tell women to not think, not do what is right, be the space goat of so many things. For example, if a woman is driving, man will be sitting next to her and asking if she would be able to drive properly. Such questions do effect unknowingly and creates a self doubt in the mind of a woman. I think its a cycle, because someone has told that its a 'man thing' to drive and that remains in the head. So when you self doubt you obviously are going to make mistakes. Its a small example, but when seen on a larger perspective, its how it is. You are told that you aren't good enough and hence you think that you are not good enough and hence you don't do good enough. So I feel women need to just shut these voices that hamper your confidence and just believe in yourself.”
Sharing that women should never be quiet with anything wrong that happens to them and should lend their opinions and experiences a voice, Mohena Kumari Singh talked about dealing with perverts in life and said, “I have given it back to a pervert. This is something that I should talk about. When I was younger, I wouldn't speak up about certain things, because of the way society teaches that you shouldn't talk about a particular topic in the way that they thought that you shouldn't. I would keep quiet. But when I started coming of my age, I realized that you need to give it back for better. And yes, now I have started to give it back on everything wrong.” (Also Read: Mohena Singh's YRKKH Co-Stars Mohsin Khan, Shivangi Joshi And Rishi Dev Danced At Her Engagement)
