Avoiding some colour choice mistakes can actually define your wedding as beautiful and elegant. We tell you 10 colour mistakes you should totally avoid.

#1. Too many colours

We love all colours, but, sweetie, not for your wedding. Mixing a lot of colours in your theme would make it chaotic. Would you want to be a part of a crayon box, or for that matter a circus wedding? We are not even advising you to go for a monochrome scheme, but just mix and match three or maximum four colours. Simplicity is the key, and you can use slightly varied shades of the same colour. Narrowing your colour choices will give depth and prevent it from looking messy.

#2. Trendy colours

Wedding magazines and blogs may advise you on the trending colours. But, be careful. They don’t know your wedding venue. Those are the default colours meant for some setups, but not all. Think, would you and your partner be able to live with those set of colours since you would be reliving those moments in the album. Think about your favourite T-shirt colour. Think about your partner’s favourite sweater. You can definitely create magic by just using the colours that make you both happy. But, keep the mood in mind as well. For instance, yellow might be your favourite colour, but might not suit the evening wedding. In that case, just play around and use different hues instead. Please shut those magazines for trending ideas, don’t forget trends go out of style, soon.

#3. Forgetting the venue and the décor colour

This is the most common mistake people make. We strongly recommend you find out the colours used for the venue décor. For say, if the venue has red curtains, using bright orange or any form of green, would definitely clash. Use venue colours as your guide, and plan other hues accordingly. Or an easy solution would be to find a venue that doesn’t have bright colours in any form, so that you can easily merge your favourite hues with them. Try and complement your colour choice with that of the venues, such as dark with light and vice versa, in order to avoid potential clashes.

#4. Forgetting the flowers

Red flowers in red décor? Naah. They would just merge and spoil the entire décor. Instead, ask your florists to use flowers that complement the interior colours. You can also use neutral flowers that will go well with every colour, and not compete with the scheme.  Find out about the seasonal flowers, since not all the flowers would be available all the time, and plan the non-floral elements accordingly.

#5. Forgetting balance

This is another common mistake. You need to understand that the eyes needs rest and calm. Even if you are using two dominant colours in the palette, you don’t need to use them in equal proportions. Right from the start of the planning, decide which colour you want as the centre, and then tone down the ratio of the rest of the colours. For instance, if lavender is at the centre stage, mix it with light hues of coral. Make the colours harmonise with each other, rather than distract. It’s all about thoughtfully balancing the right combinations to create some elegant and chic wedding. Also, don’t forget the contrast. Zoom out your eye lens, and imagine same hues would not look nice. Varying shades would just give it the missing quirkiness.
