The nominees for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards have been announced, with female artists dominating in all categories. Once again, Taylor Swift is ruling the list. Check out.
It’s again the time of the year when the hard work of the artists in the entertainment industry has paid off. Yes, it’s awards time. The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) announced this year's nominations. On Tuesday, i.e., August 8, 2023, MTV released the complete list of music video nominations for each award category for the upcoming awards function on September 12, 2023. Female artists are dominating the nominations list, with Taylor Swift at the top.
It should come as no shocker that the American singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift has bagged the maximum number of nominations this year. The 33-year-old singer is currently on her Eras Tour. Taylor has a staggering eight nominations this year, which solidified her position at the top of the nominee's list. A year ago, Taylor Swift made VMAs history by becoming the first artist to have a hat trick in winning the Video of the Year award.

Taylor Swift's song, Anti Hero has been nominated for both Song of the Year and Video of the Year awards, while Taylor herself has been nominated for Artist of the Year. In addition, her music video of Anti Hero, which she directed, is up for the Best Direction award. The cinematography in the video, done by Rina Yan, has also been recognised with a nomination for Best Cinematography. The Music video has also received a nomination for having the best visual effects.
Immediately behind Taylor Swift is the American R&B singer, Solána Imani Rowe, known professionally as SZA. Her second album, SOS got her six nominations. Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, and Sam Smith are the next-most nominated artists with five nominations, followed by K-pop girl group, Blackpink and Colombian singer, Shakira with four nominations each.
This year’s VMAs are also very special because, for the very first time, there are 35 newbie nominees on the list. Reneé Rapp, Boygenius, GloRilla, Kim Petras, PinkPantheress, Flo Milli, and Ice Spice, among others, have received their maiden VMA nominations.

And there is good news for K-pop enthusiasts as well. The Korean girl group, Blackpink has bagged four nominations. The girl group received nominations for their hit single, Pink Venom, in Best Choreography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, and Best K-Pop. TXT received two nominations this year for their most recent title hit, Sugar Rush Ride in the category of Best K-Pop and Push Performance of the Year. The songs, Girls by Aespa, Pink Venom by Blackpink, Cupid by Fifty Fifty, Super by Seventeen, S-Class by Stray Kids, and Sugar Rush Ride by TXT are contenders for this year's Best K-Pop award.
Queen Bey, i.e., Beyonce has only been nominated for Artist of the Year. She is not eligible for any other awards as she didn't release any music videos for her Renaissance album. Fans have time till September 1, 2023, to vote for most of the awards on MTV's website. The 'Best New Artist' category will remain open for voting until the live event on September 12, 2023, and the nominations for 'Group of the Year' and 'Song of the Summer' are yet to be revealed. The 2023 MTV VMAs will take place at the Prudential Centre in New Jersey.
