Veteran actress, Mumtaz revealed why she was shocked to learn about Rajesh Khanna's marriage with Dimple Kapadia.
The first superstar of Indian cinema, Rajesh Khanna, a.k.a, Kaka had made his acting debut with the film, Aakhri Khat. With an unbroken record of 15 solo hits from the year 1969 to 1971, Rajesh Khanna is still the undisputed king of Bollywood. Rajesh Khanna's success was unparalleled and so was his immense fan following.
Rajesh Khanna had given many hits in his career and his performances in movies like Kati Patang, Sacha Jhutha, Aan Milo Sajna, Choti Bahu and Anand is invincible. The actor had shared a great rapport with all his leading ladies, However, his pairing with actress, Mumtaz was the most loved. When Rajesh Khanna got married to actress, Dimple Kapadia, Mumtaz was shocked by his decision.

As per the reports of the Hindustan Times, in an interview with a leading daily, Mumtaz revealed why she was surprised to know about Rajesh Khanna's decision to marry Dimple Kapadia. Talking about the same, Mumtaz stated, "Rajesh Khanna had a steady woman in his life, Anju Mahendroo for 10 years. We all thought he would marry her but one fine morning he announced that he’s marrying Dimpy (Dimple Kapadia) and shocked everybody."
Before meeting Dimple Kapadia, Rajesh Khanna was dating Anju Mahendru and the two were in a live-in relationship for seven years. After the two had parted ways, Kaka had met Dimple and was completely smitten by her beauty and had proposed to her. Dimple was a huge fan of Rajesh Khanna and didn’t think twice before accepting his proposal. Dimple was just 16, when she had gotten married to Rajesh, who was 15 years elder to her.

Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz had starred in ten films together. After the death of Rajesh, Mumtaz had recalled the climax scene of their film, Roti, where he was supposed to carry her on his shoulder and walk through the snow. Speaking with the Mumbai Mirror, Mumtaz had stated, "When we were shooting the climax of Manmohan Desai’s Roti, he was meant to carry me on his shoulders and run through the snow. Each morning when we’d start shooting, he’d say, ‘Aye moti, chal aaja.’ And I’d jump on to his shoulders. We did this for eight days. I stood tall at 5’7, and wasn’t skinny, so by the end of it, he had a red patch on his left shoulder. We laughed through it all."
Rajesh Khanna passed away in 2012 and after his death, Mumtaz had revealed that he was suffering from cancer and had also undergone chemotherapy. On the other hand, Mumtaz too is a breast cancer survivor. In a throwback interview with PTI, Mumtaz had revealed how she and Rajesh had bonded over their illness and had shared, "He told me that I am a strong person and that he knew what I had gone through, the chemotherapy sessions. He said he did not feel hungry, and we joked that when lots of food was ordered for him, it was later enjoyed by all, except him."

Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz had starred in hit films like Do Raaste, Prem Kahani, Apna Desh and Aap Ki Kasam.
