Mushtaq Khan Was Paid Less Than Akshay Kumar's Staff In 'Welcome', Actor Talks About Pay Disparity

In a recent interview with Digital Commentary's podcast on YouTube, iconic actor, Mushtaq Khan opened up about the pay disparity he faced while working in 'Welcome' alongside Akshay Kumar.

Ek din Uday bhai ko..", from the film, Welcome is one of the greatest dialogues in the history of Indian cinema. From being used in millions of memes to becoming a highlight of Mushtaq Khan's career spanning four decades, it has a separate place in pop culture. It was back in 1980 when Mushtaq Khan made his acting debut in the film, Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai and even after 44 years, he is still a part of many big-budget movies and web series.

Mushtaq Khan recalls the time when he was told to stay with Akshay Kumar's staff

Over the years, Mushtaq Khan has worked with some of the greatest actors in Indian cinema and he, too, deserves a lot of respect for staying relevant despite so many transitions in Bollywood. However, in a recent conversation with Digital Commentary podcast on YouTube, he addressed the issue of pay disparity in Bollywood and shared how he was told to stay in a hotel where Akshay Kumar's staff was staying.

The veteran actor recalled the time when he was working in the film, Welcome and how the production people treated him despite being a senior actor on the sets. Mushtaq Khan shockingly revealed that he was paid less than Akshay Kumar's staff. The revelation shocked the hosts and left netizens disappointed when the podcast was made live on YouTube.

Further, in the same conversation, Mushtaq Khan also shared some dark secrets about the pay disparity in Bollywood, as he admitted that apart from the lead and major actors, all other actors handle their travel and accommodation expenses by themselves. It was disheartening to hear that an actor of such calibre went through so much disparity in Bollywood and was told to stay with Akshay Kumar's staff. The veteran actor further shared more details about the same. He admitted that he travels in the economy and stays in ordinary hotels most of the time because the production people do not assist.

In the same interview, Mushtaq Khan also shed some light on the brighter side of the film industry and admitted that, slowly and steadily, but the chance is coming. The veteran actor shared his experience of working in Shiv Rawail's The Railway Men and admitted that he was treated with utmost respect throughout the shooting. Not only this, Mushtaq Khan also confirmed that he is also a part of the much-awaited film, Stree 2, and added that the young production people are so caring and treat veterans with a lot of respect and warmth.
