How Nadia Chauhan managed to take Parle Argo from Rs. 300 crores to Rs. 8,000 crores

When Nadia Chauhan joined her father, Prakash Chauhan’s Parle Argo, at the age of 17, she realised quickly that the company heavily relied on their product, Frooti. There was no doubt that Frooti was one of the best-selling products in India. But the company’s dependency on the same was quite scary as 95 per cent revenue of the company was generated from Frooti.

As a result, the first thing Nadia Chauhan did was to promote packaged water brand, Baileys in order to lessen the burden from Frooti. The entrepreneur worked on water quality and packaging. As a result, it turned out to be a success. As of now, Baileys is a Rs. 1000 crore product and needs no further introduction.

After the introduction of Baileys, Nadia Chauhan left the entire FMCG industry scratching their heads after she launched Appy Fizz in 2005, one of India’s first products in the apple juice section. It was a smashing move, and the nation, which was unknown to the magic of apple juice, made Appy Fizz a runaway hit. From its packaging to marketing and the backbone of its taste, Appy Fizz was indeed a game-changer in Parle Argo’s history. The revenue from Appy Fizz took almost an enormous amount of dependency from Frooti’s shoulders, and when this happened, Nadia was all set with her ultimate move.

Nadia Chauhan went back to her roots and executed the final part of her business plan, which was to make Parle Argo’s main product, Frooti, relevant in the Indian market all over again. There was a time when a series of beverages were coming into the market, and the competition was getting extremely tight. At that moment in time, Nadia changed Frooti’s packaging and made it more peppy and vibrant so that it broke its image of being a ‘kid-centric’ beverage.

Over the years, Nadia Chauhan had invested a lot of money in Frooti’s marketing. From bringing Bollywood stars of the current generation in her promotional campaigns to re-launching the brand with an utterly new-age look are some of the decisions that made Frooti relevant even after so many years.
