Sudha Murthy recalled Narayana Murthy's first meeting with her punctual father, for which the businessman was two hours late.
English and Kannada writer and philanthropist, Sudha Murthy married Infosys co-founder and businessman, Narayana Murthy in 1978. Narayana and Sudha are two renowned personalities in India. While Narayana Murthy is the founder of IT services giant Infosys, Sudha is a popular English and Kannada author and philanthropist who chairs the Infosys foundation. It was in 2006 when Sudha was awarded the Padma Shri for her contribution to the society. Well, the husband-wife duo recently appeared on The Great Indian Kapil Show and shared a humorous anecdote about the time when the businessman had to meet his now-wife's father.
While being on The Great Indian Kapil Show, Sudha Murthy shared how Narayana Murthy's first meeting with her father had gone. She shared that the businessman reached her home two hours late as his taxi broke down. Well, the irony is Sudha's father is very punctual.
Talking more about the same, Sudha Murthy said that when Narayana didn't arrive, her father was asking her questions about the businessman's occupation. Meanwhile, Narayana joined and said that he wanted to join politics and open an orphanage. She also added that her father used to think of Sudha as a prize since not many women used to do engineering, and Narayana thought that he could impress her father by being two hours late. Sudha can be quoted as saying:
"He arrived two hours late to meet my father for the first time as his taxi broke down. My father was asking me what he does and other questions. And he came and told him that he wanted to join politics and open an orphanage. My father always thought that I was a prize because at that time not many women did engineering. And he came late thinking he would impress my father."
In the same conversation, Narayana Murthy shared that he had a little playfulness back in that time, and he was like, 'Okay, let him be angry', as the businessman considered himself to be a little adventurous. The businessman also recalled meeting Sudha for the first time. He stated that meeting Sudha was like a breath of fresh air. Narayan further praised his wifey and mentioned that she has always been kind, positive, and very talkative. He also stated that his wife wanted a listener, and as she was happy, he was happy too. In Narayana's words:
"Meeting her was a breath of fresh air. She has always been positive, kind, and very talkative.... She wanted a good listener... So, she was happy and I was happy”.
Sudha Murthy first met Narayana Murthy through a friend, Prasanna, who is now the Wipro chief. Well, most of the books she would lend her had Murthy's name on them. One day, Narayana Murthy invited them to his house, and Sudha thought that a handsome, dashing man would open the door, but she was awestruck by seeing him, as she thought in her mind who the kid was.
Well, Sudha was already a working professional when she first told her parents about Narayana's proposals, who was earning less than her back then and was working as a research assistant. Narayana started working as a general manager at Patni Computers in 1977, and then only, Sudha’s father accepted Narayana’s proposal to marry her.
