Here's everything you need to know about Nayanthara and Dhanush's controversial Rs. 10 crore feud, which is also linked to the former's husband, Vignesh Shivan, and his film, 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan'.
Nayanthara is one of the highest-paid actresses in India and has a strong fanbase in South Indian cinema. She was born on November 18, 1984, in Bengaluru, and her parents decided on the name 'Diana Mariam Kurian' for her. However, it was in 2011 that the iconic actress converted to Hinduism and took the name, 'Nayanthara'. When she was once asked about the reason behind her conversion to Hinduism from Christianity, Nayanthara clearly stated that it was her personal decision.
Despite Nayanthara's clarity on this subject, reports were rife that she converted to Hinduism in order to marry Prabhu Deva. However, no proof was found back then supporting the theory, which was speculated by some netizens on the internet. Well, it's fair to say that for most of her career, Nayanthara has received unnecessary opinions and hate on her life's personal decisions from unknown people. Despite receiving a lot of criticism for almost every action, Nayanthara continues to live her life in her own way without being affected by online trolling.
The latest controversy in Nayanthara's life concerns her legal feud with South Indian superstar, Dhanush. The issue came into the public limelight on November 16, 2024, when Nayanthara took to her Instagram handle and posted a three-page note sharing details about her legal battle with Dhanush. For the uninitiated, Nayanthara mentioned in her note that Dhanush is the reason behind the delay in releasing her Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale.
According to Nayanthara, Dhanush still needs to sign the no objection certification (NOC) over using some rare clips from his film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, directed by her husband, Vignesh Shivan. Naanum Rowdy Dhaan was directed by Vigesh Shivan and featured Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupati in leading roles. During the film's shooting, Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan came closer, and the former used a 3-second BTS clip of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her biopic, which is the reason behind her feud with Dhanush.
In her note, Nayanthara clearly stated that Dhanush has refused to sign the NOC over the use of a 3-second BTS clip in her biopic, Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale. The actress bashed Dhanush for sending her a legal notice of Rs. 10 crore over using a 3-second clip. Nayanthara also revealed that she fought with Dhanush for two years and finally decided to give up using that special clip from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. She also accused Dhanush of holding a personal grudge against her. An excerpt from Nayanthara's note could be read as:
"The vengeance that you have been festering against the film, my partner and I, doesn't just affect us but the people who have given their effort and time towards this project. It hurts hat this decision of yours is only to vent out our personal grudge against us and that you deliberately remained indecisive this long. This is an all time low from you and speaks so much about your character."
Amidst the legal feud between Nayanthara and Dhanush, popular actress, Radhika Sarathkumar, who played an essential role in Naanum Rowdy Dhaan shared an interesting anecdote about the two stars. Radhika shared that when they were shooting on the sets of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, she received a call from the film's producer, Dhanush, who informed her about Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan's relationship. Radhika opened up about his reaction and shared:
"It was Dhanush who called me and said, 'Sister, do you have any shame at all? I was like, 'What is he saying?' He asked, 'Aren't you aware of what's happening? Don't you know that Wikki and Nayan are dating?' I said, 'What the hell are you saying. I knew nothing.'"
According to a report in The Economic Times, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan made its mark at the box office with impressive numbers. However, the film's producer, Dhanush reportedly faced a huge loss due to multiple delays and cost overruns. If the reports are to be believed, Dhanush had to sell the film at a reduced price compared to what he had expected.
Even to this day, it is not known whether Dhanush faced any loss in real life or he was allegedly not happy with the way Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan's love story kickstarted on the sets of his film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. For the uninitiated, Nayanthara and Vignesh got married on June 9, 2022. The couple welcomed twins, Uyir RudroNeel N Shivan and Ulag Daiwik N Shivan, via surrogacy in October 2022. We hope Nayanthara and Dhanush resolve their issues in future.
