Nayanthara-Vignesh Shivan's Surrogacy Row: TN Govt Clarifies That The Couple Has Followed All Rules

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan got relief in the surrogacy row as the Tamil Nadu government has clarified that the star couple has followed all the rules and regulations.

Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan are one of the most loved couples in the South Indian film industry. The couple rules over millions of hearts, courtesy of their sizzling chemistry. For the unversed, Nayanthara and Vignesh had walked down the aisle on June 9, 2022. Moreover, the much-in-love couple embraced parenthood on October 9, 2022 after the arrival of their twins, Uyir and Ulagam, via surrogacy.

However, the birth of Nayanthara and Vignesh's babies had landed the couple in legal trouble, as the Tamil Nadu government has ordered an inquiry into the matter. Ever since then, newbie parents have been surrounded by controversies. But now, there is a sign of relief for Nayanthara and Vignesh as the investigation has revealed that the couple did not break any law.

According to a report in The News Minute, the Tamil Nadu government clarified that Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan had not transgressed any laws governing surrogacy in India. The report stated that a three-member panel appointed by the Health and Family Welfare Department, Tamil Nadu found that the couple had started the surrogacy procedure after getting a recommendation from their family doctor in 202. The panel said:

"On investigating the doctor who provided treatment to the couple, it was discovered that the couple's family doctor had provided a letter of recommendation in 2020 based on which treatment was provided."

Meanwhile, the report also stated that the couple and the surrogate mother entered into an agreement in November 2021. Whereas, commercial surrogacy was banned in India after the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act 2021 was passed in December. Moreover, the law came into effect in January 2022. So going by the timeline, it was lawful when Nayanthara and Vignesh started the procedure. The report mentioned:

"Oocytes were received in August 2020 and Embryos which were created remained stored in the hospital. The agreement for surrogacy was signed in November 2021 and they were injected into the surrogate mother in March 2022."

On October 9, 2022, Vignesh Shivan had announced the arrival of their twin baby boys. In the pictures, the doting parents were posing with their twins' tiny feet. Vignesh also revealed the name of his kids. Alongside it, he penned a heartfelt note for his kids. He had written:

"Nayan & Me have become Amma & Appa. We are blessed with Twin Baby Boys. All Our prayers,our ancestors’ blessings combined with all the good manifestations made, have come 2gethr in the form Of 2 blessed babies for us. Need all ur blessings for our Uyir and Ulagam. Life looks brighter & more beautiful."
