Nayanthara in a recent interview revealed why she wrote an open letter to Dhanush on social media instead of talking to him in person and it was not a publicity stunt.
Nayanthara and Dhanush's feud has been making waves in the news. For those not in the know, Nayanthara, in an open letter, has condemned Dhanush for suing her for an exorbitant Rs. 10 crores over a mere three-second BTS clip from the movie, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, which he produced. Nayanthara revealed that she had to chase Dhanush for two years to obtain a clip for her documentary, Nayanthara: Behind The Fairytale, which he refused. Despite this, she used a BTS clip, for which she was slapped with an unfair lawsuit. The industry has shown its support for her, and now Nayanthara has disclosed the reasons that led her to pen the open letter.
Nayanthara recently sat for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and revealed that the open letter was in no way a means of publicity for her documentary, Nayanthara: Behind The Fairytale. Instead, she was voicing her dismay over the situation. She knew she was in the right and had no fear of voicing her opinions for what she felt was correct and justified. In Nayanthara's words:
“Courage only comes from the truth. I only have to be scared when I’m fabricating something. If I’m not doing that, I don’t have to be scared. If I didn’t speak out now, when things had already gone too far, I don’t think anyone would have the courage to stand up for themselves ever again.”
Nayanthara also added that she did not want to tarnish anyone's image and only wanted to voice what she felt was right. She tried to reach out to Dhanush and talk to him in person, but to no avail. She even called his manager and requested him to get Dhanush on a call, but the actor avoided her and did not respond. Nayanthara further added:
“Why should I be scared of doing something which I feel is right? I should be scared only if I’m doing something wrong. I’m not someone who would want to tarnish someone’s image just for the sake of publicity.”
Releasing a three-page letter, Nayanthara openly bashed Dhanush as he demanded Rs. 10 crore for copyright infringement involving her Netflix documentary. She said that she was shocked to see that Dhanush demanded that much money, that, too, for a three-second clip captured on their personal devices, which is, again, very much available in the public domain. Not only this, Nayanthara, in her letter, said that she really wished Dhanush could be someone who he portrayed himself to be in front of the audience, and thus, it's clear that he doesn't practice what he preaches. Nayanthara tagged several of Dhanush's co-stars, and most of them supported the actress for talking her mind out and standing her ground, while Dhanush's fans called it to be a mere PR game.
According to a report in The Economic Times, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan was a box office success. However, the film's producer, Dhanush, reportedly faced significant financial losses due to multiple delays and cost overruns. The film, which had promising numbers, had to be sold at a reduced price, causing Dhanush to bear the brunt of the financial setback.
Even to this day, it is not known whether Dhanush faced any loss in real life or he was allegedly not happy with the way Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan's love story kickstarted on the sets of his film, Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. For the uninitiated, Nayanthara and Vignesh got married on June 9, 2022. The couple welcomed twins, Uyir RudroNeel N Shivan and Ulag Daiwik N Shivan, via surrogacy in October 2022. We hope Nayanthara and Dhanush resolve their issues in future.
