Neelam Kothari talked about being insecure about her looks before making a comeback on the silver screens after 25 years.
Neelam Kothari is one of the most gorgeous actresses in Bollywood. She made her acting debut back in 1984 with the movie, Jawaani. The actress has worked with several Bollywood biggies, and her acting skills were widely loved by the audience. Well, she took a break from Bollywood, and made a comeback recently with Fabulous Lives vs Bollywood Wives. Recently, in an interview, Neelam shared that it was difficult for her to make a comeback, as she was not sure about how the audience would react.
In a recent interview with News18, Neelam Kothari said that it was really hard for her to make a comeback on the screens as she faced the camera after 25 years. The actress further added that her biggest concern was how she would look, as she was a bit insecure about being aged. Neelam mentioned that she would think if people could accept her or not and how she would be taken. In Neelam's words:
"Coming back and facing the camera in the beginning was very, very difficult for me because people had seen me on screen 25 years ago. I was very conscious of the fact that yes, I had become older and my biggest fear and insecurity was how I looked. Will people accept me? I have aged as well. I was very insecure about that. I wasn’t sure how audiences would take to me."
In an interview with Radio Nasha, Neelam Kothari talked about her first meeting with Govinda. The actress said that she and Govinda first time met on the sets of Ilzaam. Talking about how they started talking, Neelam mentioned that Govinda came up and said 'hello' to her, and he was talking in Hindi, while she would talk in English.
Neelam further added that the language barrier never came in between her and Govinda and they would easily understand what they were talking about. She also revealed that her and Govinda's competitive nature brought out the best in them, as they wanted to do better than each other and this urge helped them to give the best performance. Neelam remarked that their combination did so well for them, that it left the audience swooning over them.
It was in 2002 when Neelam Kothari got married to Rishi Sethia, but the marriage turned ugly after a while. Although the marriage didn't last long, the trauma remained constant in the heart of the actress. Talking about the same, in a conversation with Ekta Kapoor, Neelam Kothari shared that she was stopped from wearing Indian clothes and told to give up non-veg and alcohol. Being in love, Neelam followed the same, which she tags as 'stupidity' now.
Talking more about it, Neelam stated that she was asked to change her name to save her marriage, but the question was about changing her identity, which she was not okay with. The actress added that she later realised that she was not doing right to herself, and even if people would come up to her to ask if she was an actress, she would deny it.
