Neelam Kothari talked about her first awkward meeting with Govinda and revealed how their competitive nature brought out the best in them.
Neelam Kothari is one of the famous Bollywood actresses, who, in a word, reigned in every heart with her beauty, acting skills, intelligence, and more. Currently, she is seen in Fabulous Lives Vs Bollywood Wives, and there's no second thought about the fact that her beauty is still intact. Well, it was her on-screen pair with Govinda, which was much loved by the audience, and the actor even lost his heart for Neelam. So much so that he was almost about to break his engagement with Sunita Ahuja and marry Neelam. In a recent interview, Neelam opened up about her first meetings with Govinda.
In an interview with Radio Nasha, Neelam Kothari talked about her first meeting with Govinda on the sets of Ilzaam. The actress said that Govinda came up and started talking to her in Hindi, and it was a little bit of a problem as the actress would only talk in English. Neelam added that they would talk in different languages and would understand what the other one was talking about, and thus, the language barrier was not even a problem. In Neelam's words:
"He came and said hello to me and started speaking to me in Hindi. So, I was like, ‘ok, there’s going to be a little bit of a problem here,’ because I would only speak in English and he, only in Hindi. It was very funny seeing both of us interacting. He used to speak in Hindi, I used to speak in English, and somehow it was fine. He understood what I was saying and I understood what he was saying."
The actress further added that her and Govinda's competitive nature brought out the best in them. Talking more about it, Neelam shared that when it came to their dance steps and songs, they would want to do better than each other, and this competitive nature actually helped them to perform the best, and their combination was so great, that the audience remained stuck to it. Neelam can be heard saying:
"When it came to our dance steps, when it came to our songs, we were very competitive. Who’s doing it better? I wanted to do better than him, he wanted to do better than me. The combination worked. The audiences loved it.”
Going further in the interview, Neelam shared that their blockbuster song, Aap Ke Aa Jaane Se from Khudgarz became a sensation amongst the audience, and they hadn't thought this through. Sharing more about it, Neelam further mentioned that it only took them one and a half days to finalise the shoot for this song.
In a 1990 interview with Stardust, Govinda talked about his unrequited feelings for Neelam Kothari. The actor stated that the more he got to know Neelam, the more he started liking her, and he couldn't just stop praising the actress to his friends, family, and even to his then-girlfriend, Sunita Ahuja, whom he asked to be like Neelam. Govinda added that Sunita would get irritated with him talking about Neelam, but the latter was the kind of a girl, for whom boys would lose their hearts, and he did the same.
Talking more about the same, Govinda revealed that once, during a fight, his now-wife, Sunita, ended up saying something about Neelam, which angered Govinda and he called his engagement with her quits. The actor added that if Sunita would have called him to sort things out, then he might have ended up marrying Neelam. In Govinda's words:
"I asked Sunita to leave me. I broke off my engagement with her. And had Sunita not called me after five days and coaxed me into it again, I would probably have married Neelam.”
