In an interview, Samir Soni recently opened up about his wife, Neelam Kothari, who was upset because of the former's intimate scene with another female co-star. Read on to learn more about it.
Samir Soni is a well-known TV and film actor. He began his career as a television actor and soon ventured into films and direction. The actor married former actress, Neelam Kothari in 2011. The couple has a daughter, Ahana. In a recent interview with GPlus, Samir opened up about how Neelam got offended by his intimate scenes with another actress in a web show. He also revealed that after she gave her permission, he took up the project.
In an interview with the YouTube channel GPlus, Samir recalled the day he approached Neelam for permission to appear in a web series. The series required his character to kiss his female co-star. According to Samir, the script was handed to him by the producers, and it featured numerous instances of his character kissing the protagonist after each scene. Although a kiss or two could be okay, he thought the regularity was too much.
After giving it some thought, he decided to show his wife the script and tell her that he could turn down the part. Because it wasn't a project by a well-known filmmaker like Spielberg, and there will be other chances in the future. Neelam surprised him by saying it was beneficial for his job, but she would not watch the show. In his words:
"The makers sent me the script and after every scene, the script said, 'The boy kisses the girl.' One or two times there was a kiss scene. So, I gave the script to her, 'It is what it is.' It's not like this, Spielberg, I will do it only if you are comfortable. Like a big hearted woman, she said, This is good for your career."
Samir shared in the same interview that Neelam's viewpoint was altered a few days later when one of her friends watched the show, which caused a ruckus. When Samir got home after shooting, he saw Neelam asking him about the show. He said he would do as the director instructed, mentioning that the director was a woman. Then she inquired about the private scenes. But Samir became uncomfortable with the route the conversation was going when she asked him how frequently these scenes happened. Samir said:
"I finished shooting for the show and one day, I came back home and she asked me about the show. She asked me, 'How were the intimate scenes?' I was like, 'I will do whatever the director says.' Luckily the director was a woman. Then she asked me, 'How frequently were these scenes?' I thought this isn't going well."
Samir clarified Neelam's skepticism by stating that one of her friends had seen the show and wondered how Neelam could let him do such acts. He assured her that he had given Neelam access to the script. He also said that he was in a tough situation. He couldn't turn down the producers because he had already received the script, but he also didn't want to minimize his wife's feelings. In his words:
"Apparently one of her friends had seen the show and she had instigated her, 'How could you let your husband do something like this?' And all that I showed her the script. At this point of time, I can't say no to producers because they had already given me the script.
