Neeta Lulla recalled how Yash Chopra blasted Sridevi in front of her for referring her to design costume for her film, 'Chandni'.
Neeta Lulla is the most celebrated fashion designer. She made her journey into Bollywood single-handedly without any godfather in the '90s when designing clothes was limited to local darzi (tailors). She hails from a family of doctors and well-educated people, but her disinterest in studies, paved her way to being the queen of the fashion world. However, her journey wasn't an easy one, Neeta Lulla recalled in a recent podcast how Yash Chopra had blasted Sridevi for choosing her to make clothes for the film.
Recently, in an interview with the YouTube channel, Wiping Out The Norm, Neeta Lulla recalled that Sridevi wanted her to design costumes for her film, Chandni. So, she arranged a meeting with Yash Chopra. However, the ace director looked unhappy seeing her and called Sridevi as he thought that she couldn't design Indian clothes. Recalling the moment, Neeta shared:
"He called her in front of me. I was in my regular work clothes which was a suit. He looked at me and said, 'Tumko desi kapde banane aate hai.' I looked at him, first toh I was dumbstruck I did not know what to say I kept quiet, then he called Sridevi, and said, 'Tumne is ladki ko bhej diya, yeh kya kapde banayegi. Yeh toh suit mein aayi hai. Isko pata bhi hoga ki kapde kaise banege.' So I don't know what the conversation was."

The ace fashion designer recalled how Yash Chopra was happy after seeing her work in the film Chandini. Later, they collaborated on films like Lamhe and Darr. She recalled another anecdote, wherein Yash Chopra told her to design an outfit at the last minute for a song. She received the call for the same at 12 in the afternoon and asked her to make a dress, and by 2:30, the outfit was completed.
Earlier, in an interaction with Bollywood Hungama, Neeta Lulla was asked about her project for Aishwarya Rai's wedding. She cleared the air whether the outfit was worth Rs. 75 lakhs as per the claims. To this, Neeta stated that those were pure afwaah and had no truth in it. She laughed off the murmurs of Aishwarya's wedding saree being worth in lakhs. She said:
“Really? You fell for this afwaah?”
